About this class

Rhythm & Motion's Dance Workout is a high energy dance-based workout class founded in 1979 by dancer & choreographer Consuelo Faust. What differentiates Rhythm & Motion's program from other workout programs is the musically driven choreography taught by well-known Bay Area dancers, choreographers and performers. The Fusion choreography is drawn from a broad range of movement disciplines, including hip hop, jazz, African, modern Latin and is inspired by an eclectic mix of international and popular mix. These classes develop fitness through dance and creative physical expression. Classes begin with a warm-up that emphasizes technique and builds to high energy dancing, which increases in stamina and strength. The workout concludes with a floor combination for strengthening and stretching the abdomen, legs and arms. Extended Fusion classes include more cardio for more stamina work (and play).  Suggested attire: comfortable clothing that you can easily move in (e.g. tank tops, t-shirts, shorts, sweats, yoga pants). How to prepare

Bring a photo ID for check-in. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that you can easily dance in and see your alignment and movement. Recommended Footwear: Contemporary, Modern Rhythms: barefoot. Fusion Rhythms, Hip Hop, House Dance: supportive sneakers Tap: Tap Shoes Ballet: Ballet Shoes Flamenco: Flamenco Shoes or Hard-soled shoes with a thick-heel. No open-toe sandals allowed. No black/rubber soled shoes allowed in studios.

How to get there

Check in at 351 Shotwell. It is between 17th and 18th street, NOT on the corner.

Dudleys energy and choreography are phenomenal. Fast paced - best of you can accept not knowing every move and just have fun! Wear dance shoes or grippy socks - I got blisters in bare feet.

Dudley's energy is so contagious! Definitely my favorite way to work out and start the day. Good for the body, good for the soul.

This was a difficult class but apparently the Essentials version is also cardio, but easier (they break the movements down better, instead of showing the routine for 3 songs all at once). Had a lot of fun with Clara and the great community!! As alluded to earlier, only complaint is how I didn't know the difference between the other dance classes--the descriptions could be clearer--so I didn't get that great a work out since I didn't really follow along.

Leesha is welcoming and a beautiful dancer! Class ended 5 minuted early I and dont like when classes end early, so hopefully next time we can add another cardio
