Having a hard time setting your health goals for 2019? We at Soja enable you to meditate while in motion and cultivate the power of playfulness through hard and smart training with other like minded individuals. Soja is a place where you explore your your natural power, where you become the hero of your own story. Our Primal Power classes give you a sustainable framework to walk the streets with power and peace by building your strength and awareness through mindful fitness. Soja's daily Primal Power classes lead you through widely diverse natural human body movements that cultivate ease and grace in all areas of your life. Take a step towards overcoming fear of aging, illness, immobility, and experience how it feels to carry your own weight with strength and confidence. Overcome fear of change by being challenged to adapt to new movements each class and build onto previous movement patterns. Soja's Primal Power classes combine individual with partner exercises that keep you engaged and on your toes. Build your personal regimen through healthy daily physical training goals, hard to do, but easier with other smart people who meet daily at the beautiful Soja studio. Soja’s gift to you is a clean, well lit space filled with people who gather and strengthen each other through consistent movement practices and a variety of classes to keep you curious and interested. It turns out this whole “exercise” thing can be fun and friend filled and deeply gratifying. We welcome you to feel better and stronger every day. With love, Soja Soja's Primal Power class draws upon natural human movement patterns to build your body's resilience and adaptability to be better able to withstand the rigors of athletic training and life's normal physical challenges. Whether you're a dancer, runner, cyclist, martial artist, climber, or practice yoga, this class empowers you to be stronger, smarter and safer at your existing workouts. This class starts out with a gentle & safe joint warm up and/or foam roller session for the first 5 minutes. Next the class challenges your stability and mobility through travelling movements across the floor in diverse manners with just your own body weight. We sometimes utilize  various props like kettlebells to inspire our bodies to align in a healthier and more stable way. We then switch to safe foundational challenges for (eventual) handstands, and pull ups. We usually finish with a cardio boxing/striking routine. These classes are small and change in focus each day depending on who shows up and their specific goals. Soja is extremely safety conscious, we expect that you will try only what you feel safe with. If you're an experienced athlete, we can easily scale our physical challenges to meet your needs. Really. Come try one today and see if it's a great fit for your body/mind.

How to prepare

Hydrate BEFORE class, not so much during class. Our workouts work best with pants that cover the knees, and short sleeved t-shirts because participants may opt to join in our safe simple tumbling and mat work. Soja students are welcome to bring their own jump rope and gloves for kettle bell use, as well as protective gear for safe sparring if they choose to participate in those activities.

How to get there

Soja opened their new studio in South West Berkeley almost a year ago. Soja closed their Oakland Uptown studio one year ago. Come check out the new location, it's 3x as large, has lots of free parking, and is located at the corner of San Pablo & Ashby Avenues. 3015 San Pablo (space A), Berkeley, CA 94702 It's at the bottom of a large Condo building called The Higby. This is the retail space on the SouthEast Corner of San Pablo & Ashby Avenues. Don't come to the main condo unit building entrance, go to the corner.

Peter is amazing! Such a fun class. You get to exercise in new ways with just your body weight. A little like gymnastics and yoga but he makes sure to accommodate to beginners which is awesome

Fantastic class!! Im 5 months pregnant and Peter took great care of me, helping me with modifications for each of the exercises. This class was a fun blend of different types of movements and exercises that got me moving my body in completely new ways.

going in i had no idea what this class would actually be like. walking out each joint and muscle group has been warmed up, flexed and challenged. peters watchful eye and mindful approach was encouraging to move in ways i hadnt moved in years. im so excited to go back!

1 lead instructor w/ 2 additional instructors. Everyone was super knowledgeable. The focus on self defense is great! The 2 assistant instructors I felt really comfortable with, the lead, as friendly as he is, seemed to just have a different sense of boundaries in the way he related to us, that perhaps was just a signal to myself that its not an exact personality/vibe fit. Still grateful to have gone.

What is ClassPass?
