About this class

Rhythm & Motion's Dance Workout is a high energy dance-based workout class founded in 1979 by acclaimed dancer Consuelo Faust. What differentiates our program from other workout programs is the musically driven choreography taught by well-known Bay Area dancers, choreographers and performers. The Rhythm & Motion's choreography is drawn from a broad range of movement disciplines, including hip hop, jazz, African, modern Latin and is inspired by an eclectic mix of international and popular mix. These classes develop fitness through dance and creative physical expression. Essential Rhythms is an excellent introductory class for students new to the workout program, and is ideal for all Rhythm & Motion students who wish

How to prepare

Bring a photo ID for check-in. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that you can easily dance in and see your alignment and movement. Recommended Footwear: Contemporary, Modern Rhythms: barefoot. Fusion Rhythms, Hip Hop, House Dance: supportive sneakers Tap: Tap Shoes Ballet: Ballet Shoes Flamenco: Flamenco Shoes or Hard-soled shoes with a thick-heel. No open-toe sandals allowed. No black/rubber soled shoes allowed in studios.

How to get there

Check in at 351 Shotwell. It is between 17th and 18th street, NOT on the corner.

ODC has showers and lockers, bring your own towel and locks. Aimee is a great dancer, moves were fairly straightforward to pick-up (start with legs first, then do arms and body), pretty simply choreo but simple doesn't always mean easy. This class was a little easier than most of her classes, and this session was more dance than it was cardio. I might come again for the dance once I learn some more ballet/jazz technique, but not for the cardio.

Very welcoming and fun class, and I loved Janets energy. As a first timer I would have liked the steps to be taught a little slower because I found it hard to keep up.
