About this studio

The Bar Method® is a one-hour, non-impact total body workout. It starts with a warm-up, free-weight exercises and push-ups and then moves on to intense, isometric leg work at the bar, followed by abdominal work at the bar and on mats. Every exercise includes active stretching to elongate the targeted muscles. The Bar Method is a challenge to both your cardiovascular system and your muscle strength, delivering a high level of overall fitness.

The Bar Method classes

How to prepare

Preparation for your first class is easy, all you need is a pair of socks that cover the entire foot (we recommend grippy socks!), exercise pants that fall to the knee or below (compression shorts must be worn underneath if pants are loose fitting), and tops that cover midriff and waistband of pants. Read more here: http://downtownsf.barmethod.com/our-studio/policies/#toggle-id-4 If this is your first class, it may feel strange, unique, and exhilarating. This is totally normal! Like anything new, it can take a few classes to really hit your stride. Once you do, we know you are going to love the changes you feel in your body, and the new friends you’ll make.

How to get there

Once you arrive to the Embarcadero Center 3, please take the escalator to the second level and make a left. The Bar Method is located on the right hand side. Please arrive 15 minutes early so we can get you properly set up and introduce you to your instructor! New students who arrive after class has commenced will not be able to take class.

Mixed Level with Molly
First class and I really liked it. Was definitely shaking in most of the moves. They really pay attention and do hands on adjustments to your form, which I liked a lot. Gave me confidence that I was doing the right thing. Instructor had great energy and was very warm and welcoming.

amazing!

Carpet floor. They correct your form and give individual attention. Not too crowded

The teacher was amazing, very patient with a beginner. Loved the workout.
Mixed Level with Jennifer
Amazing class, I loved Jennifer and all the attentive adjustments. If I could do this regularly I would be super fit!
Mixed Level with Jennifer
Lots of hands one adjustments! Great class
Mixed Level with Grace
Grace is the best instructor I've taken at the Bar Method. She's super challenging and gives really good instruction. Two things the Bar Method could do better: let fewer people into class (classes always feel over-crowded) and start on time. I have almost never taken a class that has started or finished on time.
Mixed Level with Heather
Great class. Hands on adjustment and works all parts of the body!
Mixed Level with Ana
Wasnt my favorite instructor. I felt like she didnt give much feedback, but love the pace of the class. Did new exercises that I havent done in other bar method classes
Mixed Level with Kylie
Compared to other barre classes, this one was difficult for me as a first time attendee. The instructor did little demonstration. Rather, she tried to quickly explain each exercise verbally. There was also little positive reinforcement, which can be discouraging when youre new. Its possible it was just the instructor, though! The workout was designed well, which is definitely a plus. The Dailey Method continues to be my favorite barre class in sf.
