About this studio

The Bar Method® is a one-hour, non-impact total body workout. It starts with a warm-up, free-weight exercises and push-ups and then moves on to intense, isometric leg work at the bar, followed by abdominal work at the bar and on mats. Every exercise includes active stretching to elongate the targeted muscles. The Bar Method is a challenge to both your cardiovascular system and your muscle strength, delivering a high level of overall fitness.

The Bar Method classes

How to prepare

Preparation for your first class is easy, all you need is a pair of socks that cover the entire foot (we recommend grippy socks!), exercise pants that fall to the knee or below (compression shorts must be worn underneath if pants are loose fitting), and tops that cover midriff and waistband of pants. Read more here: http://downtownsf.barmethod.com/our-studio/policies/#toggle-id-4 If this is your first class, it may feel strange, unique, and exhilarating. This is totally normal! Like anything new, it can take a few classes to really hit your stride. Once you do, we know you are going to love the changes you feel in your body, and the new friends you’ll make.

How to get there

Once you arrive to the Embarcadero Center 3, please take the escalator to the second level and make a left. The Bar Method is located on the right hand side. Please arrive 15 minutes early so we can get you properly set up and introduce you to your instructor! New students who arrive after class has commenced will not be able to take class.

The people at this studio are cliquey and not very nice. Tough atmosphere for classpassers
Mixed Level with Amanda
Solid class. Very focused on form. Has not changed a bit since I first went to Bar Method 15 years ago.
Mixed Level with Molly
The instructor for the 5:15 mixed class was very rude, condescending, and hostile. I would not take another class by her.
Mixed Level with Ana
The best barre workout Ive ever done - great individualized attention + focus on technique
Mixed Level with Kate
The instructor didnt provide any adjustments/modifications for me as a visibly pregnant student. I felt lost and nervous about doing some of the moves but didnt want to interrupt the flow of the class to ask about it.
Mixed Level with Marissa
The instructor frequently called out completely the wrong thing in class, it was frustrating. Her stretching was very good though.
Mixed Level with Diana
Very low energy but nice minimal workout! Instructor was super informative and sweet.
Mixed Level with Amanda
A little too much stretching as opposed to actually working out.
Mixed Level with Jasmine
The workout was okay. They call people out by name to correct form, so if its your first time be prepared to be called out NONSTOP. Honestly it was annoying and embarrassing to the point I wont go back. Also I personally cant stand when instructors just walk around telling you what to do instead of modeling it. And its a carpeted workout room!! Overall experience here was negative.

I worked new muscles! parking validation was awesome too.
