How ClassPass Helps Grow Your Revenue with SmartTools

Last updated: March 5, 2026

ClassPass helps fitness, wellness, and beauty businesses turn unfilled spots into incremental revenue, without upfront costs or added operational lift. Through our machine learning-powered SmartTools, we analyze historical booking data to list only true excess capacity. The result? More new clients, optimized inventory, and protected direct business, all while helping to maximize the value of every open spot on your schedule.

What are ClassPass’s SmartTools?

SmartTools are ClassPass's data-driven, automated inventory management systems that help partners make the most of every available spot on their schedule to maximize their revenue from ClassPass. Using historical booking data, our algorithms predict which spots are likely to go unfilled. This ensures we only list true excess capacity and avoid taking bookings you could have secured directly. The two main SmartTools are SmartSpot, our intelligent spot-listing tool, and SmartRate, our revenue optimization tool. Behind the scenes, they work together to keep your calendar full, with minimal impact on your direct clients.

In 2024, partners using SmartRate averaged ~20% higher ClassPass payouts, over 2x more new visitors, and ~14% higher class fill rates compared to partners not using SmartRate. (Based on a comparison of average outcomes for SmartRate and non-SmartRate U.S. fitness partners in 2024. Results vary.)

What is SmartSpot and how does it work?

SmartSpot is our intelligent spot-listing tool that uses machine learning to determine how many spots ClassPass should make available for each class, based on a business’s past attendance data, and how many of those spots we predict ClassPass can fill without taking away from direct clients.

Our SmartSpot algorithm predicts no-shows and low-fill classes, listing spots dynamically based on historical fill rates and timing. ClassPass users will see availability as allocated by the algorithm, but ClassPass doesn't "own" those spots. All spots listed on ClassPass are still fully bookable by your direct clients. No spots open to ClassPass users are ever blocked for your direct members. In real time, it optimizes how many spots to list on ClassPass by:

  • Adding more spots during low demand periods
  • Holding back during high-demand periods (as always, your direct clients come first!)
  • Helping you earn incremental revenue on spots that would otherwise go unfilled

To make these real-time adjustments, SmartSpot considers:

  • Real-time availability
  • Historical booking patterns
  • Class capacity
  • Popularity of the class and time slot
  • Seasonal trends
  • Booking velocity from both ClassPass users and direct clients

SmartSpot can also be customized to allow partners to:

  • Partners can tailor how SmartSpot behaves using: Minimum Spots (set a minimum number of ClassPass spots per class)
  • or Release All (Auto-Open Window) automatically releases all remaining unbooked spots to ClassPass a set number of hours before class start, e.g., 2–72 hours prior.

How do I set up SmartSpot?

Step 1: Integrate your booking system with ClassPass

Set your class schedule in whichever scheduling platform you use. ClassPass connects to dozens of booking platforms to make things effortless.

Step 2: Enable SmartSpot to find and fill unbooked spots

SmartSpot looks at every class and every time slot on your schedule to analyze your fill history. It releases the spots it predicts you won’t fill on your own and checks your scheduling platform to account for real-time demand.

Step 3: Secure reservations and increase your revenue

SmartSpot is designed to only list the spots you aren’t likely to fill directly, and not the ones you normally fill with your own direct clients.

“I love SmartSpot because different class times fluctuate...It lets you automatically curate where you want your ClassPass users to go.” – Marisol Garcia, Founder of iiCE Fitness

What is SmartRate and how does it work?

SmartRate is ClassPass’s revenue optimization tool that helps you earn more revenue from every class. It helps partners maximize revenue from their empty spots by adjusting credit values in real time based on a variety of factors like class popularity, class time, and proximity of booking to class time. It adjusts credit amounts to determine which levels deliver the strongest performance and conversion. Credit amounts are optimized based on aggregated trends, not individual user behavior or personal data.

Sometimes multiple bookings at a lower level earn more than one booking at a higher credit level, while other times the opposite is true. With credits that flex accordingly, SmartRate optimizes on our partner’s behalf, using real-time data, to maximize the revenue for every class, without partners having to guess or manage it manually.

We work with partners to set a confidential rate floor based on a percentage of direct membership pricing. With SmartRate, we ensure that a partner receives, at minimum, the agreed rate floor for every qualifying reservation.

This smart, flexible tool helps partners maximize incremental revenue from every class. And because ClassPass only lists your excess inventory, every payout, no matter where it falls within the rate range, is worth more than leaving a spot unfilled.

How do ClassPass partners get paid?

All ClassPass revenue is incremental to a partner’s direct business. Outside of trial offers, partners earn optimized payouts (never below the rate floor) for every attended, qualifying ClassPass reservation.

Partners can easily monitor reservations, late cancellations, and revenue in the Partner Dashboard, where they’ll find detailed insights within:

Work smarter, not harder with ClassPass

Data-driven decisions and efficient operations can make all the difference in today’s market. With ClassPass’s SmartTools, you can feel confident that your business is filling more classes, attracting new clients, and growing sustainably.

The ClassPass model has been proven across millions of booked services and thousands of partner successes, and Mindbody is the only scheduling platform where we have full visibility into ClassPass’s impact on a partner business. On average, Mindbody businesses generated incremental ClassPass revenue equal to ~28% of their direct visit revenue within six months. (Based on Mindbody-ClassPass data for joint customers using both platforms for at least 6 months from Jan 2024 – Jan 2025. Incremental ClassPass revenue means ClassPass revenue and direct revenue from ClassPass-acquired customers, net of displaced direct revenue.)

The benefits of ClassPass are so clear that Mindbody financially guarantees its customers that ClassPass will drive incremental revenue. If a Mindbody customer joins ClassPass and doesn’t see positive incremental revenue within 90 days, we will write the business a check for 2x the lost revenue. Terms apply. Over 99% of businesses using both Mindbody and ClassPass from December 2024 to December 2025 achieved positive incremental revenue during that period. (Incremental revenue is measured using the ClassPass Revenue Guarantee methodology, including ClassPass revenue and direct revenue from ClassPass-acquired customers, net of displaced direct revenue.)

Ultimately, the results speak for themselves. In 2024, businesses earning more than $50 per month on ClassPass had a 96% annual retention rate, and of the few that left, over 30% returned to the platform. More than 81,000 businesses are already using ClassPass to maximize their schedules and help boost incremental revenue—now it’s your turn to see the impact.
