Wowza! Visiting from LA and so glad I popped in! The playlist was fire and the staff is so friendly! It was a different style than the classes in LA, with more dancing and less resistance call out, but you can push yourself and I still burned more calories than the hard core instructor classes at Barry’s and SoulCycle Santa Monica while having so much fun(thanks applewatch)! Will def revisit :)

It was my first time trying solidcore. I’ve done Pilates and yoga and HIIT workouts but nothing could have prepared me for the roller coaster of emotions I felt during the class. I immediately panicked thinking I was going to die and would not make it through the class (convinced I would never book it again), then it turned into hopeful optimism, and by the end - sheer relief and looking forward to my next class! (I guess this is what childbirth must feel like?!). 11/10 recommend but it’s not for the faint hearted.

Sarah brings great energy to the class. Her camouflage leggings allowed her to move around surreptitiously, and without distraction. Similarly, her tied-over- the-shoulder sweatshirt brought a flair of graduate student / Abercrombie model to the dark, blue lit settings which added intrigue and studiousness. Finally, her air Jordan shoes reminded us that we are athletes doing cool things with our bodies. The class was well organized but also quite difficult, with Sarah calling our participants by name and approaching them to add instruction on form, even putting her foot down metaphorically and literally to prevent attendees from cheating the exercises. She is a great leader though her inability to describe the terminology for denizens of New York makes me concerned that solidcore may be working her too hard (while I enjoy Toucans, especially Toucan Sam of cereal fame, I am not sure the New Yorkans is a term of endearment for the big Apple citizens).

The class was fantastic, with three different workout areas to explore. The workout areas included weightlifting, a mountain-climbing-like activity, and strength training. I highly recommend it. It may sound challenging, but it’s actually easy to follow and a lot of fun. Adult - Ballet - Foundations

Thoughts wrt recent reviews - unless you’re talking about a Wednesday class, these classes are not mislabeled. Tuesday classes ARE classes that require 0 experience, but y’all want 0 experience Day 1 class experiences when the term started 8 to 12 weeks ago. All the studios in the city start their fall terms in Aug/Sept and really slow it down during the first few weeks. After that, all the good teachers still go over basic positions, what a plie/tendu/degage is, and how to access turnout etc every few weeks, but it wouldn’t be fair to people who showed up on day 1, with or without experience, to go over the same exact things every single class because you wanted to start late. If you want a Day 1 experience, see you Day 1 in Jan, May, or Aug - but you are likely capable of more than you think. Most people who show up with 0 experience have a good time and learn a lot if they are *actually* chill about figuring stuff out as they go along. Half the “experienced” regulars in the class who make it a positive environment showed up in the middle of the term with no experience and just kept trucking. ALSO: Corrections in front of the class are a compliment (good teachers only give corrections to people who can handle them or to prevent injury) and a gift for everyone to apply, including more experienced dancers - most have been doing ballet for less than a year or two, which is how long most people need to stay in absolute beginner classes before moving up. You’ll see them practicing the same thing! I truly understand how anxiety inducing those are (I’d break out into cold sweats at first), but this class cured my anxiety and taught me how to focus on myself. Vannessa does have a very irreverent and humorous teaching style that may not be for everyone, using funny stories to make corrections memorable. Idk i love it though. Tl;dr adjust your attitude (haha, pun), just enjoy a fun class with good technical corrections, foundational barres, and challenging across the floors
