About this class

Intro mat classes are group classes that introduce you to the foundation of Classical Pilates movement and language. We recommend these classes for students new to Urban Front PILATES or Classical Pilates mat work. When you are comfortable with Pilates movement and language, move on to the Mixed Pilates Mat or Open Pilates Mat classes. No experience required ● Pilates mats are provided by the studio

How to prepare

Grip socks are required for Core Stretch Dynamics. Please bring your own grip socks or purchase them at the studio!

How to get there

Our studio is located on 1700 Sansom Street. The entrance to the building is next door to sip-n-glo, across the street from the Sofitel Hotel. When you enter the building, the security guard will require you to sign in at the front desk. If the security guard is away from the desk, press #200 on the call box located to the left of the front door and someone will buzz you in.

Great instructor! Really good class!

The class size was extremely small, which is great, but being a beginner class the instruction was difficult to follow. The small class size should have allowed for the instructor to give more individual attention to the beginners to ensure they were learning the positions correctly, but there was very little feedback as to if the exercises were being done correctly or not.

Even though I’ve taken a lot of Pilates classes, I don’t think I’ve ever taken a class that laid out the foundations as clearly as this one. This is an excellent beginner mat class! Even if you’re experienced, it’s nice to go back to basics and re-learn the foundations step-by-step. They’re broken down into basic movements that almost anyone can do. Great instructor too!

Alex was patient and extremely motivating! It was my first time, and now I feel confident to practice the moves on my own and maybe return! Don’t be deceived by the name pilates, it was a tough workout for me. I’ve been humbled! But Alex was great! Would recommend!

Katie was great at helping me with modifications to make sure I was getting the most out of the exercises.

Overall I liked the class and will probably return again, but have some feedback. The instructor was chewing gum or candy which was a bit distracting and made it difficult to understand some of what she was saying. The cues were overall helpful and technical, but for many of the poses it wasn’t clear which hand and foot was supposed to go where. For an intro class that’s something that’s important to make people feel comfortable and want to come back.
