About this class

This is a required first class for any student new to aerial yoga. During our First Flight: Intro to Aerial Yoga class, new students will begin to familiarize themselves with the basics of aerial yoga by using the hammock in a variety of different ways. If you're new to aerial yoga, you'll find yourself quickly gaining confidence as you learn how to safely get into and out of all of the foundational wraps and poses. By gaining trust in the apparatus as well as your own abilities, a First Flight experience is exactly what you need to begin building the bedrock for your aerial yoga practice. Of course, it's no mere coincidence that First Flight is far and away our most well-attended class. Because while it focuses primarily on the building blocks of aerial yoga, it also makes for an incredibly fun hour of fitness. Aside from learning how to execute your first aerial flip, for instance, you'll also complete several inversions during a First Flight class. You'll build core and arm strength, and you may even learn a trick or two, all while uncovering a new-found love for aerial yoga. All students, yogis and non-yogis, must begin their aerial journey with a First Flight class. Some students choose to take the class several times, although you're only required to take it once. Please note: While First Flight: Intro to Aerial Yoga is a fun and accessible class for students of most all abilities, and no pre-requisites are required, this class does require at least a moderate amount of mobility and a bit of core and upper body strength to maneuver in and out of the various wraps. We strongly recommend that students who have not participated in any fitness activities for at least a year, as well as students who are recovering from injuries, chronic illnesses, or who have other special needs, begin their aerial journey by scheduling a private lesson. For students on limited budgets or a fixed income, we have low-cost private appointments available with our junior teachers and trainees currently enrolled in our aerial yoga teacher training program (AYTT).

How to prepare

Please wear clothing that covers your underarms, and nothing that is too loose fitting. Loose-fitting clothing can get burdensome in the wraps and cause students to be uncomfortable.

100% gonna come back for more after this class. It definitely requires a level of athleticism but I was shocked at how easy I fell into the hanging thing.
