Whether you are looking to detox or taste French wine, sleep in a tent on the beach or indulge in 5-star luxury for a week, there is a yoga retreat – somewhere in the world – that is perfect for you. We look at seven very different options in a variety price points and styles.
The one thing all these trips have in common is they’ll have you saying, “there’s no place like Om.”
Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat
Paradise Island, Bahamas
If you are looking to decompress on a gorgeous white sand beach, check out Sivananda Ashram. Yoga classes are taught by experienced teachers and held on spacious outdoor platforms facing the Atlantic Ocean or overlooking tropical gardens. Beginner and intermediate level classes are offered twice daily. Single guests, couples and families with children are all welcome.
The yoga vacation package costs $18 per day and includes vegetarian meals, yoga classes, daily workshops and satsangs, as well as access to beach and the ashram grounds and amenities. When you travel June 1 – November 19, accommodations rates range from $147 per night for a beachfront suite to $69 per night for space in the coconut grove to pitch your own tent.
Shambhala Retreat at Uma by COMO
If your ideal experience features pure luxury set in an exotic location, the retreats at Uma by Como are worth checking out. Several retreats are held at the resort throughout the year and from August 1 – August 7. Instructor Elena Brower will lead a six-day session focused on the fundamental yogic tools of asana, pranayama and meditation. The resort, located in the Himalayan Mountains of Bhutan, is close to Tiger’s Nest Buddhist monastery and Thimpu’s museums and markets.
Rates for this retreat start at $9,656, and the package includes accommodations, meals, nine yoga sessions with Brower, one signature 60-minute Como Shambhala Massage and five pre-scheduled excursions around Bhutan.
Joie de Vivre
Set in the beautiful French Countryside in a 400-year old Perigordian-style Chateau, this retreat brings an atmosphere of serenity and simplicity to your practice. Located between Bordeaux and Toulouse, Chateau de Bardouly provides lavish accommodations that include a heated swimming pool, tennis courts, gardens and ancient oaks surrounding a private lake, hiking and cycling, as well as easy access to the local markets and cafes. Guests can take yoga class twice daily with Los Angeles-based instructor, Stella Valente.
Rates start at $1,450 and include accommodations, farm-to-table meals, a wine tasting event and guided hikes. This seven-day retreat is held May 23-30 and produced by Yoga Works, an organization that hosts yoga retreats in other beautiful locations including Mexico, Bali and Ojai, CA.
Just Add Water Yoga, Surf and SUP
Rincon, Puerto Rico
Water sport-loving yogis who want to try something new should check out a SUP yoga retreat. SUP yoga is practiced on a paddleboard and really engages your midsection to keep you balanced and afloat as you move through poses. This practice gives new meaning to the term “ocean breath” and the sounds of the water provided added relaxation. At the Just Add Water retreat, guests can attend twice-daily yoga classes held on the deck of a private estate located on four acres of oceanfront property. In addition to yoga on land and sea, guests can go for scenic runs or fitness walks or opt for an onsite massage instead.
Rates start at $1,850 per person for triple occupancy and include accommodations, organic, locally-sourced meals, yoga classes, use of boogie boards, soft top surfboards, snorkel gear, beach towels and chairs. The next Yoga, Surf and SUP retreat will be held in Rincon in January 2016.
This isn’t your typical tranquil yoga retreat. Held in the desert in Moab, UT, guests camp out in Goose Island Campground. The retreat runs from May — May 24, and while the scenery is incredibly beautiful, it’s also very hot and dry. You will get dirty, and there are no showers on the campground. Your only bathing option is an excursion to a swimming hole.
If you are still reading, here is why this could be the trip of a lifetime. The retreat takes place in the valley of the towering red rocks alongside the Colorado river. Each day, guests are treated to bright red sunrises, two creative yoga classes, rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking and other optional activities like bouldering, trail running and rafting.
Rates start at $995 per persons and include seven yoga classes, rock climbing, hiking in Arches National Park, 10 organic meals and transportation during retreat.
