About this studio

Dhyana Yoga is one of Philly's oldest yoga establishments, founded in 2002 by Diana D'Amato-Vitarelli and now co-directed with her husband, John Vitarelli. We like to keep things “Mom & Pop” style and will want to get to know you by name! Dhyana Yoga's backbone is in the traditional Ashtanga lineage, meaning the practice is tailored to the individual even within the group setting, yet challenging, rhythmic, encouraging both strength and flexibility, focused on alignment, and aims to help students progress. Some classes have music others do not. We keep the heat set at 78-80 degrees on average, some classes (marked "heated") could get warmer, as sweat is healthy. Feel free to bring a towel and water. Classes like "Gentle," "Yin," etc are not heated. "Dhyana" means "Meditation" in Sanskrit

How to prepare

We have changing rooms and showers in the restrooms if you need to change at the studio before or after class. Having your own mat is always best but we do rent mats for $2 if you forget yours. It's also nice to bring a mat towel (available for purchase at the studio), and we recommend at least having your own mat towel over any rental mat, here or elsewhere. We do spray our rental mats with a tea tree cleaning solution after each use, so please return used mats to the desk and not into the bins.

How to get there

Dhyana Yoga is conveniently located in Center City, at 1611 Walnut Street. Our studio is on the quiet 4th floor, above American Apparel, next to the Apple store, on the North side of the street. Look for the keypad, call us, and we'll buzz you in. Take the elevator to the 4th floor. The office is to the right when you exit the elevator, please always come by the desk to sign in. If it is your first time to Dhyana Yoga, please fill out a waiver at the desk and if you have any questions at that time, we'll be there to help you.

Love love love Amys classes! They are fun, challenging and rewarding. She is a wonderful teacher!! The studio redid their lobby space and it is much more welcoming! I love it
60 Minute Dynamic flow
cool teacher... very relaxed and accepting group
60 Minute Dynamic flow
The class was great and I loved the instructor. Definitely fast paced and not for beginners. It would have been helpful if the instructor demonstrated each pose - but again, more experienced yogis will have no problem following along. Not quite good for all levels though since youll be looking around at the class to figure out the correct alignment.

Amys class is always on point... Lots of variety and challenges
Mid Level Vinyasa
John is the best yoga instructor I've ever had! I took this class because they got rid of the All-levels vinyasa class on class pass at the time I could go, but I didn't feel like this class was much different. There's always variations you can do.
