see all reviewsBlack belt instructor: LOTS of studentd(didnt bother counting). The professor showed me how to sweep my enemy when I have a lasso on one side, and spider guard at the other side by releasing the lasso and hooking the ankle and drop my enemy to the other side and then slide his leg down to my armpit and do an ankle lock, then push him to get up. If he defends it by back stepping, I swing my leg up into a triangle while he is busy backstepping. If my enemy is much bigger than me, I may have trouble locking the triangle. Instead, I lock into a diamond shape over his shoulders and then submit him with an armbar instead. Afterwards, we sparred. Because I am a 0 degree white belt, I was unable to defend myself when rolling with the Professor. His arm bar attack came out of nowhere. It was so swift that the moment I started defending, it was already too late. The armbar was so strong that I tapped immediately to avoid permanent damage to my elbow. I pray that as I practice, I will improve :(

We then did a drill where we tried to pass the guard of our partners, or stop our partners from passing our guards without using hands. Finally, we did real pass guard sparring. Because I am a 0 degree white belt, I was unable to stop the advances of my partners while protecting against strikes. In sport BJJ, punching and kicking are not allowed. In a real situation, I can guarantee that my enemies will try to hit me. Therefore learning to defend against that is crucial. I pray that as I practice, I will improve :(

This is important because my enemy will not be standing still when attacking me. No matter how good my striking is, stationary training can only get me so far. Befause I am a beginner, I had trouble moving my legs smoothly. I pray that as I practice, I will improve :(

see all reviewsBrazilian? Instructor: Dude was wearing a brazil t-shirt so I assume that is where he was from; 3 students but the big dude was late, so we had a semi-private class for almost half an hour. The professor asked me to do 50 jumping jets, 50 burpees, and 50 push ups as warm up. The teenager did not do them. I reckon it was because he had done the youth class right before this one. I then learned how to pass by enemy’s guard using the Tory Round Doe pass, then go on knee-on-belly. As my enemy tries to push my knee away, i grab his arm and defeat him with an arm bar or key moo ra. Because I am a beginner, I had trouble keeping my balance in the movements. We ended the class with 100 sit ups and one minute plank. Normally I can do 30 secs only, but today there were people doing Muay Thai sparring, which distracted me so I forgot about how hard the plank was, so I wnded up doing the full 60 seconds lol. I pray that as I practice, I will improve ;)

The way most masters teach muay thai is exactly the same as kickboxing. I was unable to see what is the difference between muay thai and kickboxing. However, this Master shows us the traditional thai martial arts which is significantly more in depth than kickboxong. Krabi Krabong looks like FMA’s kalis/arnis/escrima at first glance. However, when look more in detail, they alsp have quite a lot of differences.

see all reviewsPakistan/Filipino/ Indian instructor: 6 students. The Master taught me how to do a Bong Sour to Tan Sour while my partner gave forward force, then do it again while s/he gave downward force. We then did an activity where we mimic the Chi Sour movements, except each person initiate a movement, then pause and let his/her partner make a movement. This turn-taking game is similar to chess. In a real situation, I keep on attacking non-stop as quickly as I can, until I defeat my enemies. There is no time to think. This game allows us to slow down and think about our movements and refine them. We then did real Chi Sour, with one person attacking and one defending. I practiced with a Teen guy, a Teen/Tween girl, and a Grandpa. Surpringly, the Grandpa was the hardest to handle(I thought it would be the teenager). That Old dude got youthful energy, even though he is like, 70, or something like that. Because I am a beginner, I was unable to give out force in relation to the force that my partners gave me efficiently. I pray that as I practice, I will improve :(

see all reviewsFriendly instructor. Maybe a bit too friendly? I felt like the rest times were really long and not just because he was correcting form but because he and the other two girls (who seemed to be regulars) started conversing. But to be fair the class went on for an extra 30 mins as well (on the assumption it was only supposed to be an hour). I would’ve like it more if he corrected during the time you were doing it rather than the breaks. The following has nothing to do with the rating a chose but just something I needed to mention, I’m pretty good at conversational canto but really struggled to understand technical terms and what I can only assume were muscle names and things - so it was a bit hard to follow his corrections - has nothing to do with how I rated since I’m sure many would like the extra tidbits of info but it would have been easier for me if he simpled it down to “hands x width apart” “legs wider” “squeeze your core” and where I should be feeling it rather than trying to understand what he was talking about how because it’s a cable and something you can pull down more instead of shifting your body back (?) honestly I didn’t understand all that much. Space was nice and clean :$ felt inviting.

From there, I can take my enemy’s back, or grab his knee and ankle and push him down and climb up onto mount or side control. If he puts on a wizzard, I can grab his ankle only and then roll under him and flip him over. A more simple technique is to just pull out my leg from half guard and shoot into closed guard. We ended the class with 2 rounds of sparring. Because I am a 0 degree white belt, I cannot do the technique when the Master had his wizzard on me. I pray that as I practice, I will improve :(
