We were 2 people in the class and coach accordingly adjusted it based on our level. The class was intense but still fun as the coach had good humor. His instructions were easy to follow. Gi Jiu Jitsu All Levels

Brazilian instructor: 4 students. The Professor taught me how to submit me enemy using an arm bar when he is in my closed guard. If he pulls his arm out, i turn it into a triangle submission. Because I am a 0 degree white belt, not only was I unable to submit my partners, I was unable to even stop them from opening my closed guard. One of my partners put his knee on top of my knee, and I tapped immediately due to the excruciating pain. It was not even a submission! He was just passing my guard! Then we reset, and this time I deliberately pulled my leg away to stop that from happening but then he side-controlled me immediately because there is no guard! I have no idea what to do lol! I pray that as I practice, I will improve :(

2nd degree? black belt instructor: around 15 students(didnt actually count) . Normally I join the beginner’s class, but today I was unable to join the 6:30 class so I joined this one instead. The professor taught me how to defeat my enemy using knee bar on various positions. He said that since this was an advanced class, do not worry if we could not do the movements correctly: I could not do the movements correctly. Because I am a 0 degree white belt, I was unable to spar properly. A blue belt submitted me with a body triangle, which is used for controlling the body. It is not really a submission. Then a white belt mounted me, and I tapped. He literally tapped me out just by sitting on me :( I pray that as I practice, I will get stronger :(

    MMA

Brazilian? Instructor: Dude was wearing a brazil t-shirt so I assume that is where he was from; 3 students but the big dude was late, so we had a semi-private class for almost half an hour. The professor asked me to do 50 jumping jets, 50 burpees, and 50 push ups as warm up. The teenager did not do them. I reckon it was because he had done the youth class right before this one. I then learned how to pass by enemy’s guard using the Tory Round Doe pass, then go on knee-on-belly. As my enemy tries to push my knee away, i grab his arm and defeat him with an arm bar or key moo ra. Because I am a beginner, I had trouble keeping my balance in the movements. We ended the class with 100 sit ups and one minute plank. Normally I can do 30 secs only, but today there were people doing Muay Thai sparring, which distracted me so I forgot about how hard the plank was, so I wnded up doing the full 60 seconds lol. I pray that as I practice, I will improve ;)

    Muay Thai/Boxing

I have been practicing boxing for ten years and have participated in several boxing competitions in the United States. While visiting Hong Kong to see my family, I took the opportunity to attend Stephen's boxing gym to experience the level of coaching in Hong Kong. My impression of Stephen is that he is a coach who is very passionate about martial arts and possesses a high level of skill, showing a bit of obsession with the art. As for his coaching methods, I find them to be affirming. If you want to improve your techniques, he is definitely the best choice. However, if you are only looking to lose weight, he may not be the coach for you.

3 instructors: 6 students. The female master gave the trial class dude a private class, so it was just 2 Male Master and the 5 of us. The young lady partnered with the female teenager. I partnered with the male teenager. And the short male master partered with the short dude. Curiously, the main master asked the teenage dude when demonstrsting, rather than the other master, I reckon it was because they were the same height: both slightly taller than me, whereas the short master was slightly shorter than me. I was taught to kick my enemies while under pressure, then to step and pivot while my parter pushed me. Finally, we held pads for our partners to punch, imagining the pads were our enemies’ heads. The main master said those were merely a quarter of the progression of the sequence. I am very interested in the rest. Because I am a beginner, I cannot maintain my balance when kicking under my partner’s pressure. This means that my kicks will bounce off my enemies. I pray that as I prsctice, I will improve :(

HKer instructor: the self defence class started out unexpected. First, we did a dive roll over a tall object. It was too scary for me so I just did a regular forward roll. Then, we jumped over a high rail, like in parkour, or something like that. I was not able to, so I jumped next to the rail rather than over it. The rest of the class is what you would expect in an MMA class. Lots of fun; the beginning was the hardest.

Young instructor: 3 students. A young lady, a young dude, and an old dude(me). The Professor taught me lots of drills, including how to escape while my enemy has pinned me down, and also how to sweep my enemy while he has mounted me. We ended up with 3 rounds of sparring so that everyone goes with everyone. Because I am a 0 degree white belt, I cannot even do a knee on belly properly. Friendly instructor. Maybe a bit too friendly? I felt like the rest times were really long and not just because he was correcting form but because he and the other two girls (who seemed to be regulars) started conversing. But to be fair the class went on for an extra 30 mins as well (on the assumption it was only supposed to be an hour). I would’ve like it more if he corrected during the time you were doing it rather than the breaks. The following has nothing to do with the rating a chose but just something I needed to mention, I’m pretty good at conversational canto but really struggled to understand technical terms and what I can only assume were muscle names and things - so it was a bit hard to follow his corrections - has nothing to do with how I rated since I’m sure many would like the extra tidbits of info but it would have been easier for me if he simpled it down to “hands x width apart” “legs wider” “squeeze your core” and where I should be feeling it rather than trying to understand what he was talking about how because it’s a cable and something you can pull down more instead of shifting your body back (?) honestly I didn’t understand all that much. Space was nice and clean :$ felt inviting.
