see all reviewsReese is the best teacher I’ve had in a really long time. She was so mindful of what everyone was doing and making sure that we were all doing it correctly. Her explanations were clear and concise so I never felt confused and could move movement to movement with her. Class was challenging and she was very aware of how everyone was doing. She made adjustments as we went. 10/10. Highly recommend

see all reviewsIn a neighborhood better known for cannoli than cork blocks, SOMA Yoga has carved out a sun-drenched sanctuary on the third floor of a historic Hanover Street building. Here, where the aroma of espresso gives way to gentle incense, instructor Meredith Wadsworth channels the metaphysical musings of Baltimore's beloved Sarah Cook with a distinctly Boston twist. During a recent morning flow, Wadsworth's teaching style evoked Cook's Katonah-inspired wisdom while guiding students through warriors and triangles with architectural precision. Her commentary on "house levels" as metaphors for consciousness and bodily "currency," hallmarks of Katonah yoga philosophy, might sound esoteric to the uninitiated, but somehow makes perfect sense when you're balancing in tree pose three stories above the bustling North End streets. The space itself is a study in mindful design: industrial-chic shelving houses an arsenal of cork blocks and charcoal blankets with the organization of a Zen monastery. Sunlight streams through tall windows, creating natural spotlights on the gleaming hardwood floors, while Buddha and Ganesh maintain silent vigil over practitioners' attempts at pyramid pose. SOMA's early risers can start their practice as dawn breaks (6:00 AM on Tuesdays, for the truly committed), and night owls can flow well into the evening. The studio has thoughtfully included showers for the post-practice dash to office or aperitivo, this is the North End, after all. Wadsworth's extended arm holds and perpetual pep talks might leave you wondering if you've wandered into a philosophy seminar disguised as a workout, but that's precisely SOMA's charm. As their entrance sign proclaims "this is the way in," and indeed, whether you're seeking physical challenge or Katonah enlightenment, you'll find your path here, assuming you can climb the stairs. $3 mat rentals. On ClassPass. 256 Hanover St, 3rd floor Open daily, with weekday classes starting at 6:00/6:30 AM

see all reviewsBeautiful space! The 45mins went by fast. I did find myself a little confused both upon arrival and during class and wished there had been clearer/more proactive instruction throughout (which props to take, where to get situated in the room, what the icons on the floor meant, cues and demos for movements, etc) - it was a bit intimidating - but overall a great experience and I’ll def go back to try more classes!

see all reviewsGreat experience I came in late and had so many thoughts in my head and still was able to breath and relax to the flow of the class, I wish the receptionist would have given me a mat for the class when told her I was heading to the yoga class because it was my first time and I didn’t knew they were in the front desk but still I started the class without it and at some point the instructor noticed and provided the necessary equipment very attentive and gentle there was also a class mate who was very kind and let me know that I could pick the mat at the front desk. Definitely would go back it felt very nice.

see all reviewsTHE BEST!! Joanna is so sweet and welcoming. My favorite part about this place is she will always give you form corrections . She makes sure you are doing everything correctly instead of just watching you do the workout which a lot of studios do not do. I mean seriously I don’t know what’s up with these other studios they just watch you do the workout incorrectly and say nothing. I didnt know I was doing some exercises wrong until I had a class with Joanna! I have learned a lot from her. The workouts are challenging but she really makes sure that everybody goes at their own pace and if you need modifications or amplifications she provides that. Joanna is one of the best instructors I’ve ever had and I was so nervous before I started my workout journey but she really makes sure you feel welcome. I would recommend for anybody whether you’re a newbie or you’re an athlete these workouts are for everybody!
