Bar method does A LOT of correcting and less praise for good form than other studios. Good workout. Gorgeous studio.

The establishment itself is lovely but the front studio was way too small for the number of people they put in it. Didn’t like all the people on the street peering in but alas. Super friendly and welcoming staff. They strongly suggest wearing a shirt that covers your midriff — so no crop tops! Workout was fine but I didn’t *love* it.

Experienced level class. Lauran makes a lot of form corrections so if you don’t like corrections I wouldn’t recommend taking this class.

About this studio

Every Bar Method class starts with a warm-up, upper-body exercises and push-ups in the middle of the room, followed by a sequence of leg and seat work at the barre and core exercises on the floor. The method predominantly uses your own bodyweight for resistance along with a few basic props – free weights, mats and a ball. Their standard classes are appropriate for all levels; the “Mixed” level class is 60-minutes long and the “Express” class is 45-minutes long. Advanced classes are for students that have taken several classes and are familiar with the technique. The “Mixed Plus” class is faster-paced and includes more advanced choreography, while “Bar Move” gets your heart-rate up with cardio-based exercises that are taught in unexpected sequences that keep your body guessing. 212 397 6104

How to prepare

Please wear pants that a cover your knee, a top that covers your midriff and socks that cover your entire foot. Their signature grippy socks are available for purchase at the studio. If this is your first time at the studio, please arrive 15 min early. Late arrivals will not be allowed in class. If you are pregnant you must provide them with a doctors note clearing you to work out before your first class or you will not be permitted to take class.
