    Pilates|Barre|Yoga Fusion (60 min)

Very fun (but still challenging) class! The yoga part was a bit lacking for me as a frequent yogi but otherwise no complaints. This is the only barre class I've been to where actual ballet movement/terminology was used and it was a nice change of pace. This studio also tends to have more diversity (gender, age, body type, etc) than other pilates/barre studios, which makes for a welcoming environment!

Sometimes I go to classes at other places that feel so easy that it was a waste of my time, but Banks really tailors her classes to meet the levels of the clients. Full Body

Solidcore in general… I don’t like the high loads that beginners are asked to work with. It’s way too much. I watch people either give up or compensate with poor form to get through it, and the issue is that there is no point at which someone will come and correct your form. For example, I’m not a fan of being in various plank positions until muscle failure because get what happens when those stomach muscles “fail”? Your spine is where the load goes because it can no longer be supported. I see people pushing through the ab strengthening exercises with arched backs, externally rotated hips for hamstring exercises, etc. They aren’t aware that they aren’t strengthening the targeted muscle or worse, heading to an injury because correct form is not the focal point. Also, exercise science research is pretty clear on the need for rest between reps to get stronger. You can’t just go, go, go and expect excellent results. The pace is too high. I love it, but I also know what I’m doing, when to stop, and I’ll change out the weight as much as I please. Less “fam” and more muscle engagement cues and body position talk please.
