What is Superman?

The Superman exercise helps develop your core and lower back muscles while providing a great stretch for your back. This floor exercise is popular in yoga studios, boxing gyms and bootcamps alike, and it will leave you stronger, well-stretched and feeling heroic!

How do you do Superman?

  • Step 1

    Begin by lying flat and face-down on your stomach, your arms extended in front of you.

  • Step 2

    Lift your legs, arms and chest off the floor simultaneously as you exhale, keeping your core engaged. You should resemble Superman flying in the air. Hold the position, then inhale as you lower to the starting position.

The Superman is a great baseline exercise if you are just getting into fitness.

It is an amazing warm-up exercise before moving onto more complex movements, such as squats or deadlifts. By going over this movement a few times a week you will limit injuries, strengthen your core, develop fundamental understandings of body mechanics and learn to fly.
