What is Cobra Pose?

Cobra Pose opens the front of the body, including the heart and belly, which allows for more room to breathe. This pose increases heat in the body while you’re warming up, and it strengthens the shoulders, back and triceps to build strength for more advanced postures.

How do you do Cobra Pose?

  • Step 1

    Lie on your stomach. Place your palms next to your chest with elbows bent and hugged in at your sides. Inhale and press into your palms to lift your chest as far as you can with your pubic bone resting on the ground. Slowly release, keeping your elbows tucked in.

Listen to your body with backbends.

If you feel any pinching in the lower back, back off. Try the same posture with little to no weight in your palms to build strength and flexibility before you move on to Cobra or Upward-Facing Dog.
