About this class

Dance Trance is a high-intensity dance fitness program that makes you feel like you're dancing at a club with your friends (but you'll burn more calories and no one will spill their drink on you!) Members learn a new routine each week at "Breakdown" -- and then we turn off all the lights and dance to that routine, plus ~16 older routines, at "High Cardio." Routines are highly choreographed, so you'll be so busy trying to remember what step comes next you won't notice how tired you are. First time at DTDC? Make sure you try a "Breakdown" first so you'll be familiar with a routine before leaping into "High Cardio."

Breakdown & High Cardio with Michelle
You remember when you were a kid and you made up dance routines with your cousins? This is sort of like that. Only there are about 10 different routines that everyone seems to know. If you have no dance background, it's pretty difficult. No, the high school musical dance along doesn't count. Otherwise a pretty good workout. Please add to the description that this is on the third floor of balance gym.

Good energy, but it's hard as a first-timer since you don't know any of the routines and they're not as intuitive as Zumba or Doonya. That said, as long as you just keep dancing/don't care, you'll burn a lot of calories.

I wish I could give this class 0 stars. DON’T GO. Save your ClassPass money and go somewhere else. While the gym looks fab, this class is not. 1) the teacher couldn’t even count the counts right 2) after we broke down the original routine we started dancing to random other routines from PAST CLASSES. Like who thinks that’s a good idea?!? From a business concept?!? I left after 30 minutes. This is the only class I have ever left early. I took someone’s advice on here and just went on a run. A WASTE OF MONEY.

This class was really fun and high energy! The instructor Eileen was easy to follow, and even when I didn’t know a dance, her distinct, sharp movements made it easier to follow the choreography. This class is better for people who come regularly, as they teach different dances each week. Some are fine and you catch on, while others are trickier. The hardest thing is that they do a lot of moves that turn to the back, and they don’t have a mirror that allows you to follow along with the instructor! Even with all that in mind, it’s still a lot of fun and had me sweating my butt off - go check it out!

So fun! You do have to be comfortable with not really knowing the steps and jumping in the general direction your first time.

A great work out but it’s hard to follow new choreography which is 75% of the class. I think only worth attending if you regularly go to class to learn all of the routines

This was a great class that definitely felt like a cardio workout and left me sore the next few days. It was great to be dancing while getting a good workout in. All the instructors are great and I'll definitely be back.

Eileen is full of energy and fun, but she also keeps the class moving and explains the moves well. Always love her classes.

How to prepare

Shoes: Sneakers/gym shoes are great; the smoother the sole, the better. Dance sneakers are recommended because they offer enough support for the fitness part of our class. Bare feet are not allowed for Dance Trance for safety reasons.

Dance Trance is located inside Balance Gym. The exact address is 1339 Green Court NW. Proceed down an alley accessible via 14th St., Massachusetts Ave. and L St. NW to the brightly colored gym. Dance Trance is located on the third floor.
