How to prepare

Classes at AstaYoga follow a general routine that is vigorous- the more often you practice, the more familiar you will become with the flow. Our Basics classes offer more detailed instruction to get started, but a beginner's attitude is helpful and welcome in every class. The classes are heated to no more than 80 degrees. You will be trained in breathing techniques that stimulate the generation of organic sweat- the sweat you earn. We offer mats for rent ($2) and complimentary towels. Please arrive to class at least 5 minutes early.

Much better experience for a newbie compared to rocket yoga. The pace was slower, the instructor spent more time going over the poses with more in-depth instructions and some demonstrations of the poses. Still not provided with any corrections at all, but I am starting to realize this might just be his (maybe even their) style. I still think yoga without correction from the instructor can result in injury and even less benefit, but it is, what it is, still very challenging class that inspires me. I did go and get a book that reviews ashtanga yoga and the same sentiments given in the book : yoga without correction = bad.

Amazing instructor and great energy ????

First, excellent class if you are a more intermediate or advanced in your practice. The yoga poses here were inspiring. I can only hope one day to get to this level. My criticism of this class is the fact that it is in no way for beginners. 80% of the moves were advanced and no you can’t practice make perfect if no correction or direction or assistance is given by the instructor. I don’t think I have ever felt so alienated in my life. I know this studio tends to be very reactive to criticism ( just look at their responses to anyone giving them less than stellar reviews below ) but consider that these can be constructive criticisms unless your goal here is to always have your regulars and no newbies. . if I were practicing at the level that those attendees were then 100% awesome class to really help to solidly and refine your practice but even with 3 months under my belt 3-4 yoga classes a week, this was way above my level and just left feeling demoralized. Would I ever return? Yep.
