TOKYO - Slow Flow
see all reviewsFinding an open yoga studio in central Tokyo during the New Year's weekend—when much of the city's commerce pauses for Shogatsu—felt like a minor logistical miracle. Nami Yoga Studio is a serene, high-floor sanctuary just a five-minute walk from Akasaka-Mitsuke Station, tucked away on the 7th floor of the Toraya Dai2 Building. The transition from street-level bustle to elevator to calm practice space is almost meditative in itself. The Saturday 9 AM Slow Hatha Flow led by Kotone Daxini was exactly what I needed after days of international travel: a back-friendly, unheated practice in a space defined by light wood floors, hanging plants, and soft natural light filtering through vertical blinds. Kotone's instruction was bright, precise, and perfectly bilingual—making the international mix of students (roughly half Japanese locals, half expats and travelers, including a few other men) feel completely at ease. Observation: the foreigners were punctual while a few locals trickled in fashionably late. No judgement, Japan! The operational details reflect a quality-first approach. They provide premium B MATs— a Canadian brand known for superior grip— and all necessary props free of charge. I booked via ClassPass for 5 credits, which turned out to be the most efficient system for my short 3-day Tokyo window. Travelers here for a full week should definitely look into their ¥5,000 "First Timer" 3-class bundle instead. A rare, reliable asset for anyone needing English-friendly yoga in Minato City— especially during the holiday blackout when most boutique studios go dark.

see all reviewsThe class was great. She assisted all of us with some of the poses. She gave pointers and some variations depending on your level. She even explained how a left-handed like me would be more stiff on my dominant side and suggested some stretches to help with it. Most members were foreigners and she did the class in both Japanese and English. Overall a great experience and would definitely be back. Thank you, Mika-san!
