About this class

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is a type of cardio training in which you alternate short, very high intensity intervals with intervals to recover. This type of training is used by athletes to improve performance, but it’s also been shown to greatly benefit athletes of all levels. Each short, intense workout provides improved athletic capacity.

How to prepare

Please wear comfortable workout attire and athletic shoes. For yoga and Pilates: shoes are not necessary, socks are optional. Mats and hand-towels are available for use. Showers and day-use lockers are on site (note-padlocks are not provided). Upon arriving for class, check in at the front desk and go upstairs. -Group X Studio (entry door next to wall-mounted whiteboard) -Group Training Area (black-floored open area) -Group Pilates Room (entry door next to gray shoe cubbies)

How to get there

Rise Bodyworks is located at 1226 Park Street. in Alameda, between San Jose Ave. & Encinal Ave. There is no patron parking lot. Metered parking is available on Park Street. Non-metered parking can be found on nearby residential streets.

Good workout; however the pacing seemed off. He keeps the class together and wants everyone to finish at the same time. I’m a fit person and in great shape, so I used more weight than other participants, which took me longer to complete the exercises than the other participants who appeared to fly through it all. He then called time, but I was only halfway through my last series of exercises. I continued working out even though the rest of the class was stretching; I want a full workout regardless of what others in the class are doing.

I've had this instructor before! I wish I recognized the name. he is arrogant (refused to offer modifications to 2 people). He went too fast, I was constantly behind trying to complete my sets without injury to keep at his pace. the studio was out of appropriate size 8lb wts too. it was terrible! I jerked my elbow just trying to transition.

Really great work out in terms of I really felt like I accomplished something. Definitely a full body work out. If you're not pretty fit to begin with, consider lifting half the weight or dropping weights all together. Modifications for your fitness level is welcomed. Also do as many reps as you think you can do.. don't have to keep up with the Jones's. Derek is very good at checking your form! Let him know if you're new and he'll make sure you really understand each exercise.

I so appreciate Derek for his passion about fitness! I feel welcome and encouraged in his class. He has us try an exercise before we do it to make sure we have proper form. We stretch and warm up our bodies to prevent injury. All these details make Derek's class special.

you will work really hard but its going to be worth it. 40 minute mark I thought I was going to pass out but just try! great teacher who is passionate and guides you throughout class. def recommend for those who want to tone and do cardio!
