How it works

About this class

Founded in Japan, Tabata is high-intensity interval training—improves aerobic systems as well as anaerobic systems. Begins with a pilates warm up, then onto 20-second bouts of high-intensity training followed by 10 seconds of rest x 8 = 4-minute intervals alternating between cardio and pilates exercises. This will be followed by a cool down and stretch.

How to prepare

For your first class at Reformation Fitness, please arrive 10 minutes early to sign a waiver, familiarize yourself with the studios and facility, as well as get a chance to speak to the instructor ahead of the class regarding any limitations, injuries or modifications needed. All classes are 14 members (or less) per room, so please feel free to ask questions regarding modifications, progressions, form & technique, and/or different weight/resistance levels needed. Please be courteous and respectful of all others during class. Thank you!

How to get there

Reformation Fitness - Shaw/Convention Center conveniently located in the heart of DC's Historic Shaw District. They're within a 10-15 minute walk from many surrounding neighborhoods -- including Logan Circle, U Street, Bloomingdale, Shaw, Mt. Vernon Triangle, Thomas Circle, and Gallery Place/Chinatown. Street parking is available and can be paid for via ParkMobile. The Convention Center/Mt. Vernon Metro Station (Green/Yellow lines) is one block away.

Instructor was very nice and easy to follow and this is a nice studio. I felt the class could have been more challenging and then realized I pulled something in my back which has been hurting the past couple of days - maybe between several jump/squatting exercises or core exercises that I should have watched out for my back more on.

As with most classes at the studio, the workout is good, it’s just the vibe of the studio is super low energy. No one is friends or recognizes anyone. The teacher doesn’t push you too hard, the music is not very upbeat or loud. But, the workout was pretty good so I’ll likely be back.

Danielle is amazing! She always has a new and exciting routine for the class. She keeps you moving and switching exercises often so you don’t even realize how hard you are working until you pause and everything is sore! Highly recommend Danielle for a fun workout that will whip you into shape and leave you feeling sore in all the right ways afterwards!

Very challenging workout and good music. However instructors mic was broken (too loud) and she didn’t ask about injuries before class

Danielle is great but they need to rework the tabata class. It was 7 minutes of examining every move for the rest of class and then we ended the exercises at 40 minutes instead of 50.
