I was surprisingly able to learn the choreography to a tango with no previous professional dance experience. Additionally, the studio was judgement-free and welcoming. Due to limited shoe options, I wore sneakers with smooth soles. It went well, so I would not let that be a reason not to book.

The “advanced” class was started early this year because of the demand from students to want to learn more than once a week as well as go beyond the basics. The woman who wrote the review dropped in on a class where our regular instructor was substituted. She also exuded an appalling arrogance about her to all the male leads she danced with. When I softly confronted her about hitting us in the face with her hair flips on turns she said “you all need learn to dodge it”. It’s not our job to dodge it. Put that stuff in a ponytail and be humble. Overall attitude was unpleasant and disrespectful to other students. To write a one star review judging everything and everyone because you didn’t know what you were walking into is not a fair assessment of this school. I would take her review with a grain of salt coming from someone who walked into the studio already high brow.

Afterwards I paid an additional $5 to stay for the Thursday night dance party. They played songs for all kinds of dances including tango, rumba, foxtrot, 2 step, waltz, East and West Coast swing, salsa, bachata, and cha cha with announcements at the beginning of each song to tell you what kind of dance it was. Everyone was very welcoming and willing to teach the steps to the various dances. The crowd was pretty much all gen X to baby boomers, but as a millennial I still had a blast!

see all reviewsOur class of 3 - led by Arantza - was a lovely introduction to basic dance steps in foxtrot, tango, and waltz. Another teacher stepped in when we had to practice, so we rotated partners and practiced solo as well: both modes were very useful in perfecting the steps. Arantza also shared helpful pointers to make the steps more elegant: crucial for the beginner - like me - who often needs pointers to dance gracefully while keeping track of the steps themselves. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend the class to any beginner exploring western dance forms. They also have more focused classes on bachata, salsa, waltz etc that might be of interest to the practiced or returning dancer.
