    Kalari Body and Mind Training

A Midday Retreat Finding Velutha's Kalari class in Sydney's CBD was like stumbling upon a secret garden amidst concrete; an unexpected sanctuary offering strength, serenity, and a connection to an age-old martial art. The experience was a perfect counterbalance to the hustle of city life, a midday retreat that rejuvenated both body and mind. Velutha, with his genuine warmth and expertise, welcomed us into the world of Kalaripayattu, making each participant feel seen and understood, regardless of our diverse aspirations and fitness levels. The class journey began with grounding warm-up exercises paired with intentional breathing, awakening a state of presence and readiness. What truly set this experience apart were the Kalari animal poses. Moving through the elegance of the peacock pose to the resilience of the elephant, each form challenged and inspired, bridging the gap between physicality and mindfulness. Velutha's adept guidance through these poses and the foundational leg raises introduced us to our own potential for strength and grace. Transitioning to wooden stick fighting basics, the class was both a nod to tradition and a playful exploration of skill, where respect and camaraderie flourished among us. Velutha’s talent in creating an atmosphere of light-hearted focus made every moment enjoyable and enriching. Concluding with a comprehensive cool-down and stretch, the sense of collective accomplishment was palpable. This wasn’t just a workout but a holistic practice that nourished the spirit and clarified the mind, making the return to the office surprisingly lighter. Velutha's Kalari class in the CBD isn’t merely a physical engagement; it's a portal to discovering inner balance and the joy of movement, encapsulated within a lunch hour. For anyone looking to transcend the mundane and touch upon something timeless, this class is a gift, promising not just a break from the day but a transformation that resonates beyond.
