About this class

A gong bath is a unique type of sounds therapy where the Gong is played In a therapeutic way to bring about the relaxation and healing , but its deeper goal is awareness and non-judgmental appreciation of the present moment. Along with the gong we use Ocean drum, Tibetan singing bawls , bells . How is gong meditation practiced? Most people who participate in gong baths are lying down on meditation mats. Add a pillow and a blanket , eye musk . Relax and close your eyes. Your instructor will guide you through the session. Initially, the gong is played very softly; as the meditation session progresses, the volume is gradually increased. Since the purpose of the meditation gong sound is healing, the volume is never upped to uncomfortable levels. The first brainwave state to be reached is Alpha between 8 and 12 Hz. Alpha brainwaves are associated with creativity and feelings of relaxation. In this state, people experience daydreams, associative thinking and imagination. This state is quickly followed by Theta brainwaves, which fall between 4 and 7 Hz. Normally, the theta brainwave state is associated with deep meditation, hypnosis and REM sleep. Gong sound therapy has been practiced for thousands of years. Today, enthusiasts believe that gong baths can help reduce stress and liberate emotional blockages. Scientific evidence suggests that certain forms of sound therapy prompt damaged human DNA strands to repair themselves. Some tones are thought to promote vitality and healing, and also to enhance happiness. Many alternative healthcare clinics offer sound therapies such as gong meditation to help manage various ailments.

It was a good class. However, there is no one responsible for the entrance door, you have to wait for a while sometimes until you can get in. Also, if you’re too close to the speaker, the music gets quite loud and you can’t hear the teachers words.

Started before it was due to start so a few of us were waiting outside the door oblivious. Once we realised, I wasn’t offered a mat, blindfold etc., I had to figure it out for myself...not an ideal way to start a meditation.

There was no one to let us in, we could only get in when someone else exited the building, and there was no one in the reception area. As a newcomer it was a bit off-putting The class itself was okay, but the teacher spoke very quietly and I couldn’t hear her instructions at all.
