I’ve been a few times now to the Kick Start sessions, but it really does depend on which trainer you have to whether it will be a good session or not at this Dojo. There seems to be a lot of change around recently. The only good trainers are Su-Lin & Yo. The other newer kiwi guys do far too advanced combinations for a Kick Start session and the girls mess around. I was paired up for this class with an American girl who said she just arrived in Auckland but she was working there as there was an odd no. She told me she didn’t want to do it because she had just had a shower so didn’t want to get sweaty and then just left me for some of the class standing there doing nothing while everyone else was training! I ended up having to stay for the next class as I didn’t really get a workout at all, it was very frustrating. Yo took the next class after that, so luckily he saved the day!

About this studio

Thai Boxing (or Muay Thai as it is called in Thailand) is Thailand’s national sport. It’s a complete workout, using punches, elbows, kicks and knees, to burn 1,000 calories an hour! At JAI, our trainers are all professional fighters, but you’ll never be pressured to spar or fight. In fact, you can de-stress and get the full benefits without having to do any sparring. All fitness levels and shapes are welcome. Train with friendly pros for a real Thai experience. Champs from Thailand. They hand-pick their team from professional training camps in Thailand selected not only for their incredible fight experience and wealth of training experience but also for their patience, humility and gentle natures. How to prepare

If it is your first time, please come 15 minutes earlier. Wear gear you can move in, shorts and a t-shirt or tank top. Handwraps to protect your knuckles and wrists and a pair of gloves are essential for every class, but if it’s your first time, you can loan a pair from them. Following that, it is $3 to hire handwraps or $15 to purchase. Gloves and other gear are available for purchase. Please bring a sweat towel.
