Great class today focusing on lower body. Jason is really encouraging and gives attentive feedback to everyone. He has good suggestions for every level and every move, whether you want to make something more challenging or more manageable. Sweat classes are among the most challenging workouts I do, and I appreciate the varied routines and how many different weight options and modifications are available each time. Never boring!

This was BY FAR the best yoga class I’ve taken anywhere. Sometimes yoga can feel repetitive and my body feels weak and the class environment makes me feel self conscious. Very traditional teaching style from atop the speaking platform. Some days I like more hands on adjustments, other days I just want a straightforward disciplined class. Beautiful studio, well kept locker room (though I did go to the first class of the evening) well trained desk staff. And thank you for NOT using the fans too often and keeping the humidity and HEAT UP til the very end!!! Absolutely hate too many fan breaks and lying in a "cold sweat." Suggestion for newbies: ego at the door, take in any constructive criticism as room for improvement, tell yourself to just stay STILL and breathe even if you sit out during poses, and your body can really enjoy the blood flowing in final savasana. Best part haha. Be patient and just have fun learning :)

Teacher is a great dancer with a lot of energy but doesn't slow down to teach steps. Need to turn off the music when adding new moves to the choreography, count and teach slowly, and repeat slowly altogether before turning on the music again (and yelling over it). There is fast music for half the class, and the fast repetitions should be far less. Note that the people requesting fast music aren't following the routine anyway and just want to move fast for cardio. Yes, cardio is good, but many of us also WANT TO LEARN GOOD DANCE TECHNIQUE.

    Know Your Core—Work Your Core

The class was very useful in helping me understand my core a lot better. I have chronic lower back pain and have a hard time isolating and strengthening it using traditional methods. Clarice helped to correct my form where my lower back wouldn’t be exacerbated and was very attentive to each person in this class. She also took the time to show me the correct form on how I should perform a plank which would actually target my core without hurting anything else. This is a slower class designed to be more technical so don’t expect to “work up a sweat.” Instead take it as the learning opportunity it is for healthier activation of core muscles, stretching, and foam rolling.

    Contact Improvisation Basics

Saturday 1:30 location is entrance on Eighth Street, in Bay One, Azul Studio. It's a huge building with parallel hallways, so get help from a tenant for Bay One. Guest instructor, Olivia, from Vancouver. Good intro for a brand new person. You need to be able to crawl and roll on the harwood floor (wear clothing that covers the body parts you need covered, spongy kneepads is you have them, be healthy enough to get down for floor work). There's contact partner work that involves bearing another person's weight. You can sit out and observe if you're unable to do this. I found out this modality isn't for me, but I'll go back once in a while to improve on technical floor skills.
