How it works

About this class

Yin yoga is the relaxed practice of floor postures for approximately five minutes at a time, emphasizing connective tissues of the hips, thighs, pelvis and lower spine inclusive, at times, of upper body tissues. By stilling the body the student now can spend time shifting awareness into the body and more subtler regions of being where a journey of inner exploration can begin to heal one’s self on all levels - physical, mental and emotional. The potential for transformation comes from listening to the messages of the body’s feedback system as well as keen observation of the mind’s mental stream. Yoga Nidra is an ancient form of meditation that takes one into the deepest levels of relaxation, while remaining fully awake and aware. A “witness” emerges that is part of the self that watches your experience from a place of detachment. While being led on a conscious journey of awareness inside the body, you explore the various layers (sheaths) of your being, doing self inquiry along the way. The realization that emerges is discovery of the truth of the way things really are, your connection to the whole and an ultimate state of pure bliss, joy and peace. No prior experience required for either.

Ive been surprised by how taking this unusual (for me at least) yoga class has affected me in the weeks following taking it. I have been digging back into some of the messages from this class frequently since attending.

I wouldnt take this class again. It was relaxing and the poses were useful for purposes of Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra. However, the teacher was READING from a manual.. her script! She stumbled on words and it was clear that they werent written by her... since it felt very forced. I think the pieces for a great class are here but the methodology and execution of the class is missing. As a side note, the snoring of other students, from their relaxed state was also distracting - but that must mean that the scripted nature of the class didnt bother them. With this in mind, please note that this review could be a personal to my Yin Yoga practice style preference.

Incredible! First time yin yogi here and it certainly wont be my last. The meditation at the end was like being awake and in a deep sleep, dream state at the same time. So peaceful and grounding.

Loved the instructor.

Soothing class, though with a couple of strong back stretches and hip openers. Would recommend bringing something to cover your eyes in the "resting" part of the class as the teacher's flashlight was a little distracting.

great for tight hips and shoulders.

Instructor was chatty, which was a little distracting. Not the best studio lighting/noise wise. Also not really a workout, and minimum stretch (for me personally)

This was my first time trying Yin and, while it was very different from the yoga I normally practice, I liked the change of pace. I didn't like the teacher's style but she seemed particularly distracted so maybe she was just having an off night.

This class was the definition of relaxation. Great to take it sore because the stretches felt exquisite on tight muscles.
