About this class

Bheemashakti Yoga consists of physical exercises (kriyas) combined with dynamic breathing practices (pranayama) and harmonizing meditations to prepare the student for any level of yogic practice one desires. Conditioning the body in this way accelerates the improvement of any existing asana practice. This is a unique system that is informed by the ancient practices of Swara Yoga. The teachings are centered around the "Seven Dimensions of the Body" concept which provides students with a systematic approach to opening and energizing the body in all directions for the goal of self-mastery.  Instruction follows a rhythmic cycle to balance the energies in the body and is tailored to the individual needs of each student. Every Tuesday we'll focus on flexibility and every Thursday Strengthening. This class is open to all levels and experience.

How to prepare

Classes are mostly held outdoors, except in times of rain or extreme cold, though we do have outdoor heaters to keep things cozy. Always best to dress warm and shed layers as you heat up.

How to get there

It is best to park in the neighborhoods surrounding the studio, as La Jolla Blvd can sometimes be full. Always best to plan on arriving a bit early to ensure you get to class on time in case you need to walk.

I love working on that strength dimension with Troy!

It was a different practice from the other disciplines of yoga I have done yet challenging and 'opening' with breathing exercises incorporated with the repetitive movements. Use of props were encouraged which helped me personally with my left knee issue thus I had to slightly modify. Karina subbed for the instructor originally listed. She gave cues, prompts and demonstrated each pose. She gently guided the class and encouraged us to honor our bodies - do what we can. The poses as the class progressed became more advanced. There was a short meditation section in the end which I wish were longer. I loved the outdoor space where the class was held-and everyone was friendly. I felt energized and challenged in the end. Ample street parking.

Troy is amazing! He is an outstanding teacher, not some sensitive new age guy who teaches generic flow. Bheemashakti will definitely open the body and advance your practice. Also, Riffs is a nice space with an awesome patio.

What is ClassPass?
