Essential Knowledge of Posture and Breathing Module 1 at Raja Yoga
About this class
Breath control is the foundation of all yoga. By learning to regulate the breath we learn how to regulate the nervous system. By consciously regulating the nervous system we can learn to regulate blood pressure, heart rate, circulation, digestion, emotional states, and many other body processes. In this class students will learn how to breathe slower and deeper with different ratios of inhalation to exhalation to remedy their specific health issue. We will also use an ancient technique called alternate nostril breathing that is a subtle but very powerful way to regulate the nervous system. In addition, meditations for the heart and deep relaxation will be taught. This class is helpful for people with heart and circulation problems, lung problems such as asthma or emphysema, chronic pain, stress management, anxiety or depression, and addictive disorders since all of these problems will improve when the nervous system can be consciously regulated. How to prepare
Please wear comfortable yoga or exercise clothes. Wearing slightly form-fitting clothing is advised so that the instructor may provide alignment cues and corrections.
