About this class
Levels 1-2. Did you realize that 50% of women and 25% of men over the age of 50 have low bone density? Did you know that movements such as curving the spine forward (think partial curl ups, toe touches, etc.) have been shown to increase the risk of future compression fractures of the spine by 89%!! The good news is that all of the Pilates teachers at ProBalance are well versed in optimizing outcomes for those with low bone density. This class in particular is designed and taught by a physical therapist and utilizes the Reformer, Tower, & props. It emphasizes exercises that have been shown to diminish and improve bone loss, optimize posture, increase lower body and core strength, and improve balance. Bone safe modifications for traditional Pilates exercises are the norm in this class...be aware that modifications don't necessarily mean that you work less! How to prepare
ProBalance classes are in the upstairs studio. If you have a special condition (low bone density, stenosis, spondyloslisthesis, hip replacement, neurological conditions, etc.), make sure to let the teacher know ahead of time to ensure the right modifications for exercises throughout class. If you have an active injury or condition, please consult your health care practitioner prior to starting these classes.
How to get there
We're located at the corner of North Loop Road and Harbor Bay Parkway at the Venture Commerce Center (north) Complex. We are about a 10 minute walk from the Alameda Harbor Bay Ferry Terminal. Please park either in a spot marked specifically as "ProBalance Only", spots with 2213 on the pavement, or in a completely unmarked space. Our lot has plenty of unmarked parking so this shouldn't ever be an issue.
