About this class

Modern Rhythms , part of the Rhythm & Motion Dance Workout program, is an energetic workout that integrates the best of contemporary movement from across many movement disciplines. Build core technique through floor-barre inspired choreography. Then, take that deep strength into standing choreography: warm-ups that build technical skills and get you moving, culminating in choreography that moves you across the floor, around the room - dances that lift the energy for the entire class. Suggested attire: comfortable clothing that you can easily move in (e.g. tank tops, t-shirts, shorts, sweats, yoga pants). This class in done in bare feet.

How to prepare

Bring a photo ID for check-in. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that you can easily dance in and see your alignment and movement. Recommended Footwear: Contemporary, Modern Rhythms: barefoot. Fusion Rhythms, Hip Hop, House Dance: supportive sneakers Tap: Tap Shoes Ballet: Ballet Shoes Flamenco: Flamenco Shoes or Hard-soled shoes with a thick-heel. No open-toe sandals allowed. No black/rubber soled shoes allowed in studios.

How to get there

Check in at 351 Shotwell. It is between 17th and 18th street, NOT on the corner.

Rhythm & Motion (Extended Modern) with Ken
These classes are supposed to be dance workout classes and in todays Saturday extended modern with Ken, we didnt actually start dancing until 15 minutes before the class was over. These classes are already hit or miss and todays was a total miss, probably the worst MR class I have ever taken at odc. When I take Saturday extended modern I expect to dance and sweat the entire time and not spend a long time learning his new choreography to really bad music! He didnt stretch us out and had us a do standing warm up stretches which wasnt effective. By the time we actually started stretching I got a cramp from not being stretched out and warm. I left feeling unsatisfied, grumpy and let down, like I wasted my time and money, and wanting to take another class.

So much fun! The choreography isnt broken down much, but it challenged my brain to keep up. Im sure Ill catch on more in my 2nd class.
