About this class

Born and raised in Salvador, Bahia, Tania Santiago grew up in the heart of African-influenced Brazil. She has taught, danced, and choreographed for the most well known companies in Brazil. Tania has also extensively studied other forms of dance such as Jazz, Ballet, West African, Afro-Cuban, and Modern dance. She spent six years working with Olodum, a highly respected and internationally acknowledged Bloco Afro in Brazil. Tania also choreographed and performed for Olodum on television, at concerts, and at music festivals. Since 1997, Tania has been teaching classes and giving workshops in California, New York, Hawaii, Florida, and Vancouver, Canada. She has been an artist in residence at various school programs in San Francisco as well as a featured teacher at the Brazil Camp in Northern California. Suggested attire: comfortable clothing that you can easily move in (e.g. tank tops, t-shirts, shorts, sweats, yoga pants). Class is danced in bare feet.

How to prepare

Bring a photo ID for check-in. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that you can easily dance in and see your alignment and movement. Recommended Footwear: Contemporary, Modern Rhythms: barefoot. Fusion Rhythms, Hip Hop, House Dance: supportive sneakers Tap: Tap Shoes Ballet: Ballet Shoes Flamenco: Flamenco Shoes or Hard-soled shoes with a thick-heel. No open-toe sandals allowed. No black/rubber soled shoes allowed in studios.

How to get there

Check in at 351 Shotwell. It is between 17th and 18th street, NOT on the corner.

Fun class, Greta workout! Choreography is taught fairly quickly though, so not a good class for anyone who had not taken any sort of dance class before.

What is ClassPass?
