About this class

Pilates Mat is a flow of exercises created by Joseph Pilates. Traditional Mat focuses on moving from the core so this class will work your abdominals throughout. Since traditional Pilates Mat work is mostly abs, abs, abs, we also add contemporary variations so you get a glute and thigh workout.Class begins lying on a Mat and centering yourself with breathing, pelvic rocking and abdominals curls. You will progress through the traditional flowing series - combining stretching and strengthening throughout each move. Mat is predominantly abdominal work but also incorporates buttock and thigh toning.This class is for you if you want a calming, serene approach to your workout. Back, knee and shoulder friendly - especially if you tell your instructor your limitations they will provide you with props and/or modifications for your needs.Choose one of our different formats if:For high energy, music and more "burn" choose Boston Body Barre or Remixx classes.For calm and serene with more upper body and resistance choose Sculpt with Props.Group classes are not recommended for anyone with serious joint pain or physical limitations without a doctor's clearance.Pre Natal - Pilates Mat is not for those in second or third trimester since much of the format is lying down or on your stomach. Start with a one on one private for prenatal modifications in body position before you join a group Mat class.

How to prepare

First timers! Please fill out this automatic waiver: http://bostonbody.com/liability-release-waiver Please bring a bottle of water. Barre ("grippy") socks are required. If you are pregnant, you will need a doctor's permission note emailed to the studio prior to your arrive. In addition, please arrive at least 10 minutes to your first class with a Doctor's note if you have any injuries or physical limitations. For your own safety and health, you are responsible for notifying both front desk and your instructor of any health conditions.

Really great class. Not traditional pilates at all; we worked out all parts of our bodies. Jess is so kind and supportive. Definitely no reason to be intimidated if you aren't in the best shape (but also challenging for non-beginners)

What is ClassPass?

ClassPass is a new kind of gym membership that grants you access to thousands of different classes at studios and gyms in your city and around the world.

Price of membership depends on your plan type and city, and you can book and explore classes ranging from yoga to barre to cycling to martial arts – the options are truly endless!

The number of classes you can take and the number of times you can visit a studio per month depends on which plan you're on.
