About this class

This hour long class will work on stretching and releasing the connective tissue (ligaments, tendons, and fascia) through intelligently sequenced postures that are held for a few moments each. Unlike a Vinyasa practice, which infuses the muscles with blood, strengthens, and stretches muscles, Yin Yoga works to make connective tissue longer and stronger by holding deep postures. Physical benefits of Yin practice include increased range of motion, fascia release, tissue revitalization, and activating the parasympathetic nervous system to support digestion, the immune system, and relaxation. Emotionally and spiritually, the Yin practice helps us slow down & create balance in our fast-paced lives, increase our resiliency to stress, and provides the opportunity to be present with emotions that stored in the body.

How to prepare

Classes at AstaYoga follow a general routine that is vigorous- the more often you practice, the more familiar you will become with the flow. Our Basics classes offer more detailed instruction to get started, but a beginner's attitude is helpful and welcome in every class. The classes are heated to no more than 80 degrees. You will be trained in breathing techniques that stimulate the generation of organic sweat- the sweat you earn. We offer mats for rent ($2) and complimentary towels. Please arrive to class at least 5 minutes early.

Yin with Shaina
This yin class was good but not my favorite yin. The class was difficult to follow and we didnt hold some poses long enough to see what we were supposed to be doing. Great slower paced class though and we did some solid hip openers.
