How it works

About this class

Lyra, also known as aerial hoop or circeaux, is a steel or aluminum hoop suspended in the air. A lyra class builds skill moving through various tricks and poses while the hoop is either static, spinning or swinging . Each class consists of a proper cardiovascular warm-up and flexibility training and is followed by guided technique instruction. Each lyra class concludes with a brief cool down.  This is the class for beginners! Proper body alignment and awareness will be taught, as well as fundamental lyra moves and strengthening techniques.

How to prepare

Aerial Silks can burn, so please bring proper coverage. Fitted pants that cover the back of the knees and a long shirt that can be tucked in are suggested for beginners. As you progress, it is advisable to buy a leotard, but it is not necessary for intro classes. All classes are barefoot. No rings or dangly jewelry.

How to get there

The building is a light periwinkle blue and the door to buzz in is to the right of the main Kryolan Retail/make up store. Ring buzzer #302 and someone will allow you in. If you are coming from Howard St. headed towards Mission, we are on the left second building from Mission (between Kryolan & Panorama). There is two-hour paid parking surrounding the building until 6:30 on weekdays, free on Sunday. If attending a class at night please do not leave valuables in your car.

Lyra - LEVEL 1 with Hillary
I've done about 6-7 classes here and this is the first one that I didn't love. The instructor was a sub and I felt I spent most of the class standing around. The instruction was just not up to par with the other classes I've taken here.

Erin was amazing!! Such a positive and welcoming instructor
Lyra - LEVEL 1 with Erin
There were 7 students in class but there were only 3 lyras for us to use so we had to take turns. The class was so not organized and not well planned at all. Erin showed us what to do on Lyra and then the rest of the class was just us 7 students all over the place and trying to do what Erin did. This class is not for anybody who really wants to learn a good trick or two on Lyra. This class is more like for people who wanna touch Lyra and feel what it's like. If you are a serious learner then this class will waste your time.
