Here\u2019s your complete guide!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s no secret there\u2019s a very specific vernacular in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/classpass.com\/try\/crossfit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CrossFit<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> classes. Those stumped by all these acronyms, please put your hands in the air! Good news, we have you covered before you even get to the studio. Let this extensive ClassPass glossary be your study guide on your commute, so you can enter the studio like a pro!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The most important CrossFit terms to know<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Air Squats: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bodyweight squats.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>AMRAP: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is an acronym that stands for \u201cas many reps as possible.\u201d This is usually used as a part of a HIIT circuit, or as a final burnout at the end of your workout.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>ATG: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This stands for \u201cass to grass\u201d during air squats. Get as low as you can when you hear this!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Back Squats: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is universal to all strength training, and means weighted squats with the weight across your shoulders with a barbell.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Box: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is CrossFit\u2019s special name that refers to the CrossFit gym itself.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Box Squats: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is a plyometric where you hop up onto a training box and stand into a squat.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>CFT:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This stands for \u201cCrossFit Total\u201d and adds up your max squat, press and deadlift.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Chin Up:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This is a pullup with your hands facing toward your body, and bringing your chin up to the bar.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Chipper: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A workout that has a ton of movements and a ton of reps. Basically, you\u2019re chipping away at it! We promise it\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/classpass.com\/blog\/benefits-of-crossfit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">worth it<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Clean (CLN):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This refers to the movement of moving your barbell with weight from the ground to racked position.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>CTB:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This stands for \u201cchest to bar\u201d and refers to the chest to bar pullup, where you bring your chest as close as possible to the bar.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>DFL:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Dead effing last.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>DNF: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Did not finish.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Double Unders:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This refers to getting two rotations of a jump rope in one hop.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>EMOTM:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This stands for \u201cevery minute on the minute.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Girl Workout: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This isn\u2019t what you\u2019d expect it to mean! This stands for the workouts that are named after women.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Goat:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This refers to an exercise or workout you\u2019re not personally good at during class.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Hang Clean:<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is a traditional Olympic lift. Your barbell starts by hanging from your hips and end in the front squat position.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Hang Snatch:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This is also a traditional Olympic lift. This exercise starts with the barbell hanging at your hips, and then lifted up over your head to a full press position.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Hero WODs: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is the naming structure for workouts that are named after fallen veterans.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>HSPU: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This stands for \u201chandstand pushups.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>K2E: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This stands for \u201cknees to elbows,\u201d and refers to hanging on the pullup bar while bringing your knees to your elbows to work your core.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Kipping:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> You\u2019ve likely seen this version of pull-ups on YouTube or Instagram! This refers to the technique of using your lower body to give you momentum into a pull-up.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>MWOD:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Mobility and stretching-focused workout.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Muscle Up:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> One of the hardest CrossFit exercises! This refers to pullups with the rings, and a ring dip to finish.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Overhead Squat: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is a regular squat with the barbell pressed above your head for the duration of the rep.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>PB:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Personal best.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Pistol: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is a one-legged squat.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Push Jerk:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This refers to the exercise of holding the barbell in the rack position, squatting and then pressing the bar overhead.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Rack Position:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This refers to the position where the barbell rests on your chest and collarbones.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Renegade Row: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From a pushup position clasping free weights, alternate rows with each weight.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>RM: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This stands for \u201crepetition maximum,\u201d and refers to the maximum you can lift for amount of reps assigned.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Thrusters:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Hold barbell in rack position, drop down into a squat position with barbell in rack position, return to standing position in exploding motion, pushing the barbell over your head.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>TTB:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This stands for \u201ctoes to bar\u201d and refers to a scaled version of the knees to elbows crunch while hanging from the pullup bar.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>TNG:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This stands for \u201ctouch and go\u201d and means completing reps without pausing in between.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Unbroken: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do all workouts back to back, or start back at the top once done with one set.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Wall Balls:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Imagine this like a squat, except you toss your medicine ball up to hit the highest spot on the wall that you can.
