These days, there are so many new and exciting pieces marketed to help you up your yoga game that it can get <a href=\"https:\/\/classpass.com\/blog\/classpass-glossary-yoga\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pretty overwhelming<\/a>, especially if you\u2019re a <a href=\"https:\/\/classpass.com\/try\/yoga\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">yoga newbie<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That said, they\u2019re even more important for you if you\u2019re just starting out, helping you improve your form and ease you into more difficult positions with confidence! If you\u2019re confused about yoga props, here\u2019s your guide to understanding and mastering their purposes.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before we dive in, let&#8217;s cover why and how you&#8217;ll tell if you need yoga props!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Basic yoga props and yoga equipment you need<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>First, what is a yoga prop? A yoga prop is any piece of equipment used in a yoga class. They&#8217;re typically the items lined up in the back of the class, but we could even go so far as to say that your yoga mat is a yoga prop!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many different types of yoga props, but the most common yoga props are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Yoga Strap<\/li><li>Yoga Blocks<\/li><li>Yoga Bolster<\/li><li>A Blanket<\/li><li>Essential Oils<\/li><li>Yoga Wheel<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Each prop has a special purpose, whether that be helping you minimize injury by providing support, or helping you open your body more to deepen each stretch! Another common yoga prop is the yoga mat! This is pretty much essential to your yoga practice. Not sure where to start looking? Check out this post from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caviarfeeling.com\/post\/the-best-yoga-mats\/\">Caviar Feeling about the best yoga mats. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The yoga strap<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The strap can be a helpful piece of equipment for basic stretching techniques, however, there are many more ways to integrate it into your practice. Are you working toward crushing your first perfect dance pose? Getting better shoulder mobility? Improving your balance? You guessed it: the strap can really <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.doyouyoga.com\/10-ways-to-use-the-yoga-strap-with-photos-55570\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">do it all<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. As a general rule of thumb, attach the looped end of the strap to the body part you\u2019re working to reach, and use your other body part to ease the two now formed straps closer, breathing in to hold the stretch, and exhaling to deepen or release it. Final pro tip: one of my favorite ways to use the strap is for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/classpass.com\/blog\/stretches-to-improve-posture\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">improving posture<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is a common weakness for many of us that sit at a desk during the day. Try it at home or in the office while you\u2019re working for a serious healthy multitasking session! If you\u2019re looking for more hands-on guidance first, try taking a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/classpass.com\/classes\/hypehouse-missoula\/pride-ride-16b4c859c24\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TRX yoga class<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at a studio near you to master some of the foundations of similar stretches and positions that will help you improve your movements.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The yoga block<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The most common prop for yoga, the block, is just as versatile as it is common! From helping you reach new flexibility heights to helping align posture, it can have major added benefits during class, and even beyond the studio doors. Use them to help you master the forward bend, sink deeper into pigeon pose, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.self.com\/gallery\/yoga-block-workout-slideshow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">much more<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. By giving you more comfortable support for your back, the block\u2019s relative, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yogadirect.com\/foam-yoga-wedge.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">yoga wedge<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, is also a great piece of gear that can help you master positions like boat pose.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The yoga bolster<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ever feel frustrated during a guided meditation class, or feel like savasana is a waste of time since you\u2019re usually uncomfortable lying on the ground? Me too. It wasn\u2019t until I started incorporating yoga pillows and bolsters into my practice that I was able to get <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejourneyjunkie.com\/yoga-3\/yoga-tutorial-how-to-use-a-bolster\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">even more<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> out of my meditation. Our bodies naturally tense up when we\u2019re in unsupportive positions, so by alleviating many of the common pressure points, you\u2019ll be able to focus on the important work at hand: meditation.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Yoga blanket<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your towel isn\u2019t cutting it when it comes to keeping your body temperature moderate as you begin your cool down meditation, try a blanket.
