Tessina<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (aka &#8220;Dr. Romance&#8221;)\u00a0and clinical psychologist, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/comprehendthemind.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Sanam Hafeez<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0give us the details on all the health benefits you\u2019ll feel when you snuggle up close to the ones that you love.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>It can reduce your risk for heart disease<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0301051104001632\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Studies show<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that oxytocin can help reduce the risk for heart disease&nbsp;because it helps lower our blood pressure and heart rate. Dr. Hafeez explains that \u201ccuddling triggers the release of oxytocin, which relieves stress. Less stress, less anxiety and lower blood pressure all mean less strain on the heart.&#8221; She adds&nbsp;that \u201ctouch is critical to our well being, and it has been said that just 20 seconds of cuddling can improve mood for up to 24 hours.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>It can strengthen your bond<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whether it\u2019s mother-child cuddling, snuggling up with your favorite pet or romantic cuddling, it will all strengthen your bond with each other. \u201cAround six to nine weeks after we are conceived, we develop our first of the five&nbsp;senses, touch, which is the most developed sense,\u201d Dr. Hafeez says. \u201cThe first thing that happens in utero and when we are born is that we are touched.&#8221; We are literally born to touch each other. <\/span><b>\u201c<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Act on your affection for one another. This will increase the bond between both of you and create a sense of intimacy that can often help you overcome barriers,\u201d Tessina says.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>It can help your immune\u00a0system<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Though it\u2019s not entirely understood why, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pss.sagepub.com\/content\/26\/2\/135\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">studies<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">have shown that human contact can help strengthen your immune system. Scientists are aware that it has everything to do with the release of oxytocin, dopamine and serotonin into your bloodstream, but are still not sure how this can be utilized in a medical setting to cure or prevent sickness.
