Read ahead for the most common signs of low blood sugar, how you can quickly combat it and what foods will have you saying \u201cbuh-bye\u201d to the problem for good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>How do you feel when your blood sugar is low?<\/b><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Having your heart start to race isn\u2019t just an indicator that you\u2019ve run in your gym crush\u2014it could also be a red flag&nbsp;about your health. According to David A. Greuner, M.D., surgical director at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nycsurgical.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NYC Surgical Associates<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, rapid heart rate, as well as dizziness, headaches, ringing in the ears, cold sweats and other indicators of a \u201cflight or fight\u201d response are signs of low blood sugar.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis is because when your body feels like its sugar levels are too low, it releases \u2018panic\u2019 hormones in response in order to cause your tissues to break down other fuels, such as fats, proteins and a sugar storage molecule called glycogen in order to allow a quick spike in blood sugar,\u201d he says. \u201cThis also causes cardiac stimulation, which can lead to rapid heart rate and nervousness as well as [an] overall unwell feeling.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n[sc name=&#8221;saveupto70off&#8221; ]\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>The dangers of low blood sugar<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to salivating over food porn pics, having low blood sugar can lead to some other complications. \u201cDangers of low blood sugar, apart from the obvious issues such as feeling terrible, can range from passing out to lethargy, as well as overeating as a result,\u201d Dr. Greuner says. \u201cOvereating due to low blood sugar is typically followed by a sugar spike. This process, over the long term, results in fat deposition, and an overall very unhealthy physique.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What\u2019s more, because the brain relies on glucose, or blood sugar, for energy, this issue can make it difficult for your brain to function appropriately, says&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nutritionnuptials.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mandy Enright<\/a>, a registered dietitian nutritionist and spokesperson for the NJ Academy of Nutrition &amp; Dietetics. \u201cPassing out or seizures can occur from low blood sugar and, in extreme cases, coma,\u201d she says. \u201cFrequent occurrences of events related to low blood sugar (such as passing out multiple times), can lead to brain damage over time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>What to do if you have low blood sugar<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enright says the best way to battle low blood sugar is to \u201ceat steady meals throughout the day, which provide a constant supply of energy to the body.\u201d She suggests eating breakfast, lunch and dinner and adding in two to three small snacks per day, \u201caiming not to go longer than [four] hours without eating.\u201d She adds, \u201cMake sure there is some form of carbohydrate in all meals, as this is what provides energy to the body and keeps a steady supply of sugar in the blood. Healthy sources of carbs include fruits, veggies, whole grains and dairy.\u201d &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>How to maintain your blood sugar while working out<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you\u2019re dashing off after work to make your evening boot camp class, sometimes grabbing a bite can fall by the wayside. That said, according to holistic nutritionist <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.manifeastnutrition.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Haley Parrent<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u201cnourishing yourself well before a workout or physical activity is so important to keep your blood sugar levels in the clear.\u201d Parrent recommends a small snack \u201ccomposed mainly of carbohydrates\u201d before a workout to keep energy levels high. She adds, \u201cHaving something to munch on shortly after is also key for recovery and for regulating your blood sugar.\u201d<br><br>As extra motivation to hit up your yoga class, Alisa&nbsp;Cowell, a clinical nutritionist in Nederland, Colo., says that \u201cexercise really helps to regulate blood sugar.\u201d That&#8217;s because&nbsp;exercise improves your body\u2019s process of getting glucose into cells in the future, which \u201cprevents problems down the line.\u201d Time to get back to boot camp!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Best foods to combat low blood sugar<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Put that candy bar down! Cowell says to crush this problem, \u201cit\u2019s really important to get some healthy carbs with a healthy fat\u201d into your system to \u201csustain you longer and get your blood sugar [back to normal].\u201d She suggests apples with almond butter, carrots and hummus, dried fruits or trail mix.
