It’s (almost) that time of year! Both Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks have confirmed that our favorite Pumpkin Spice Lattes will be hitting stores soon — earlier than ever! While we’re excited for our first sip of the season, we always wonder just how unhealthy this fall staple is.
Health recently spoke with a nutritionist, who shares this love for the PSL. While many different restaurants have created their own version of the bev, the general consensus is that it really should just be enjoyed as a treat here and there and not to replace your regular morning cup of joe. Why? Because as one would suspect, it is loaded with lots of sugar and processed ingredients.
While not all Pumpkin Spice Lattes are treated equally (check out individual nutrition information for exact amounts), you can make some variations to your order such as switching from whole milk to skim or opting for a sugar-free syrup instead of the sugar-laden counterpart.
