It seems like every week we’re seeing a new trend spread across Instagram like wildfire, but we’re especially intrigued by one of the latest wellness trends: moon milk. Not only is it pretty to look at, but the promise of better sleep is always something we’re interested in.
Yes, moon milk is more than just a pretty thing.
So, what is it? According to Health Magazine, the drink is basically a combination of heated milk and natural flavorings including sweet spices. The term “moon milk” comes from the ancient holistic practice of Ayurveda where it is used as a remedy for sleep deprivation and is usually consumed before bed.
☾ MOON MILK ☾ This dreamy potion is used in Ayurvedic traditions as a remedy for sleeplessness. With beautiful adaptogenic herbs and ayurvedic spices, Mermaid Latte lends itself perfectly for this recipe, however any of our lattes would work beautifully with the addition of some adaptogenic herbs. We’ve made ours with homemade hemp milk, but you could also use any kind of nut milk. Registered dietician, Monica Auslander Moreno, told Yahoo that moon milk can be beneficial, but it depends on the person and what you add to it. She recommends that “you start with grass-fed organic milk or unsweetened organic nut or soy milk as the base. Warm your base in a saucepan (microwaves may cause it to congeal) and add in your desired herbs and spices.” Although it may prove soothing for some, there are no studies to prove that moon milk can actually help you fall asleep.
And there you have it, the unfiltered truth behind another Instagram trend.
