We do everything we can to stay healthy. We exercise, eat our fruits and veggies (okay, sometimes a bit of ice cream) and make sure to stay on top of our doctor appointments and check-ups. But with our work schedules, workout classes and the occasional happy hour (or two), it can be really hard to balance it all without losing track. Enter: our ultimate health and wellness FAQ guide.

We answered the most common and basic health-related questions, from how many times a week you should be exercising to how often you should self-check your breasts, and packaged it up into this neat little guide. So bookmark it, print it or even tape it to your desk if you need to. You’ll never have to Google it again.

How long should I exercise for?
It is recommended you get 30 minutes of some sort of physical activity each day or 210 minutes per week.

How many times a week should I exercise?
Ideally, you should work out 3-4 times per week to see a difference in your health or fitness level.

How many doctor appointments should I go to a year?
Aside from illness or other medical issues, you should aim to visit your:

  • Primary physician: Once every other year
  • Gynecologist: Once every three years
  • Dentist: Once every six months
  • Optometrist: Once every two years 

How often should I self-check my breasts?
Once per month (at least).

How many glasses of water should I drink every day?
At least eight 8-ounce glasses per day, depending on your age, gender and health.

How many hours of sleep do I need each night?
You should aim to snooze for  7-9 hours per night, depending on your age and health.

How much protein should I be eating every day?
A minimum of 46 grams per day for women.

How much fat should I be eating every day?
On average, you should aim to get between 44-78 grams of healthy fat per day, based on a 2,000-calorie diet.

How much fiber should I be eating every day?
This can depend on your age and how many calories you’re consuming each day, but it is recommended that women between 18-50 years old should get 25 grams of fiber a day, and women older than 51 years should get 21 grams.

How many carbohydrates should I be eating every day?
On average, aim to get between 225-325 grams of carbohydrates per day.

How many servings of fruits and vegetables should I be eating every day?
You should aim to eat between 5-13 servings of fruits and vegetables, which is about 2.5-6.5 cups per day.

How many calories should I eat each day?
The FDA recommends women consume 2,000 calories a day to maintain their weights.
