Thinking About Trying Sunscreen Pills? Think Again

If you have been seeing ads or hearing whispers about natural sunscreen pills that are being marketed by major companies, promising to protect your skin against the sun, listen up. They sound appealing because obviously taking a pill is easier than lathering up every few hours in the sun, but they just don’t measure up to classic sunscreen. Even though they do claim to be a natural alternative, the FDA warns against them and it’s definitely worth listening to their advice.

USA Today shared comments from Food and Drug Administration commissioner, Scott Gottlieb, in which he states that companies are “misleading consumers, and putting people at risk.” Furthermore, Gottlieb shared, “there’s no pill or capsule that can replace your sunscreen.”

Many companies such as  Advanced Skin Brightening Formula, Sunsafe Rx, Solaricare, and Sunergetic are receiving warning letters from the FDA for their false advertisement of these products.

Time to re-stock your favorite SPF.
