Minimalism may not be everyone’s end goal, but an organized home is something most of us can agree on. With the start of a new season, it’s time to get rid of our not-so-good habits and put our best foot forward. The first step? Tackling clutter.
Beauty products, in particular, can get real messy real fast. There’s always a free sample that we cling on to or a texturizing spray that we swear we’ll use come summertime (spoiler: we won’t).
While makeup holders and medicine cabinets do the trick, here are seven clever ways to organize your makeup and beauty products.
1. Reuse old candle jars
Let’s face it: We all have them. Clean out your prettiest candle jars once the candle has been used up. Then use the jars to store makeup brushes, nail polish, cotton buds, you name it.
2. Make your own makeup palette
If you have a handful of half-used eyeshadow palettes, it’s time to combine and conquer. The Z Palette allows you to take a little bit from one palette and a little bit from another until you’ve created your very own. Reduce clutter by merging a few (or 10) palettes into one!

3. Store your makeup palettes in a letter holder
Now that you have your palettes ready to go, store them in a letter holder. This ensures that you see what you have at all time and puts the pretty packaging on display.
4. Loop hair ties on a carabiner
5. Give your spice rack new meaning
Spice racks are basically just small shelves. You know what that means? They can be used for just about anything, makeup included.
6. Use utensil trays and drawer organizers to your advantage
If you keep every other area of your house organized, why wouldn’t you treat your prized possessions (aka makeup) the same way?! Stock up on utensil trays, drawer organizers and different size containers to give every product a place.
7. Stick bobby pins on a magnetic strip
Add a magnetic strip to a bulletin board, container or tucked away inside a drawer. Then, let your bobby pins do the work.
To prevent losing sight of what you already have (be sure to check expiration dates though!), it’s important to keep your beauty products in tip-top shape. Rally up the troops (ahem, empty jars and baskets) and start the season off right.
