8 Celebs Who Practice Meditation

Many people consider meditation to be an impossible feat. Sitting in silence for minutes on end with your innermost thoughts may sound like a nightmare (we feel ya!). But if you’ve ever wondered how some of the busiest people in Hollywood stay calm, cool and collected, then here’s your answer: meditation. Mindfulness and meditation are some of the most buzzed-about practices in recent years, though some of the world’s most-loved television and movie stars have been in the know for decades. Below, eight of Hollywood’s finest share how meditation has given them a new lease on life:

Gisele Bundchen

In an interview with Glamour, Bundchen revealed that meditation is a key factor to her fit figure and mental well being. “I practice transcendental meditation twice a day, every morning and lunchtime or evening, for about 20 minutes,” she says. And her meditation practice has been brought to the silver screen. Bundchen, the face of Chanel No5, starred in a series of videos that highlighted her true love (watch out, Tom Brady!): nature. “Meditation and yoga have been unbelievable tools. The only place where I found peace is within.” She may be at home on the catwalk but evidently this supermodel is the real deal when she’s at one with nature.

Ellen DeGeneres

The queen of laughs credits her fun-loving nature to her regular meditation practice. After speaking with meditation advocates Russell Simmons and Russell Brand, DeGeneres decided to give it a try and she now has nearly 15 years of meditation practice under her belt. In an interview with Today, she explained why meditation is the answer for life’s problems: “Because it feels good. Kinda like when you have to shut your computer down, just sometimes when it goes crazy, you just shut it down and when you turn it on again, it’s OK again. That’s what meditation is for me.” With a hectic life and constant desire to keep busy, DeGeneres believes her daily meditation practice provides her with a sense of stillness that she can’t find elsewhere — because even this barrel of laughs needs a break.

Cameron Diaz

Nowadays, Cameron Diaz is making waves as a best-selling health and wellness author. In addition to her knowledge about exercise and healthy eating, Diaz is well versed in transcendental meditation. In an interview with OWN, she revealed why meditation has been so groundbreaking in her life: “You’re frazzled by 5:30 in the afternoon. All of the pieces are shattered everywhere. You’re fragmented. You can’t think or hold anything. Then you meditate for 20 minutes and the next thing you know, everything becomes whole again.” The best part? She now has meditating down to a science, and even finds herself meditating when she’s stressed out on set.

Hugh Jackman

This Wolverine star is wellknown for his ripped physique, skin cancer awareness and family-first attitude. But he claims that meditation is what helps him keep his priorities in order. Considered a “life-changer” by Jackman, he says meditation has reduced his stress levels and provided clarity and focus in his life. So when does he find that he needs to meditate most? Anytime he’s about to hit the stage or the big screen. Meditation has helped the actor stay in touch with his true self, and his family thanks him for it. “After I was done with something that was making me nervous, my wife would say, ‘Oh good, I got my husband back.’ It was that feeling that you were not fully there because part of your brain focused on worrying. For me, the best way to handle this was through meditation,” he said in an interview on SiriusXM.

Miranda Kerr

By the looks of it, this supermodel has it all: a blossoming career, adorable son and billionaire husband-to-be. But in late 2016, Miranda opened up about her bouts of depression following her breakup with Orlando Bloom. After trying out several methods to overcome her depression, Kerr found meditation to be the most effective. In an interview with Elle Canada, she revealed that meditation taught her that “every thought you have affects your reality and only you have control of your mind.” Through self reflection and a gracious attitude, Kerr was able to put her best foot forward.

Lena Dunham

These days, Lena Dunham might as well be considered a wellness guru. She’s on top of every health trend, from yoga to crystals. As someone who struggles with anxiety and OCD, Dunham relies on meditation to keep her mental state in check. This form of self-care has been passed down by generations of women in her family, and she can’t stop gushing about how it’s helped her cope with mental illness. “Meditation has made it possible for me to weather certain challenges and storms and public moments that I didn’t ever imagine would be in my life,” said Dunham. “It gathers me up for the day and makes me feel organized, happy and capable of facing the challenges of the world, both internal and external.”

Jerry Seinfeld

Believe it or not, one of America’s favorite comics is a longtime fan of meditation. Like many other stars, Jerry practices transcendental meditation. In an interview with Good Morning America, he equated meditation to a phone charger. “Mediation is like having a charger for your mind and body,” he said. The greatest benefit, according to Seinfeld, is that it supplies him with an endless amount of energy.

Jennifer Lopez

Entertaining is what Jennifer Lopez does best, but contrary to popular belief, she is human after all and needs to take a break from time to time. Let’s be real: if we were to walk a day in J.Lo’s shoes, we would be exhausted. Between a hit TV show, Las Vegas residency and two young children, she certainly has her hands full. That’s why meditation is crucial in her daily routine. After realizing that she needed a breather, Lopez turned to meditation and was able to find peace amid the craziness. She simply sits down for 20 minutes during the morning and night to keep her mind at ease. Then she busts a move on the dance floor and starts all over again.
