While we hate to be the bearers of bad news, cheese lovers listen up: there’s been a huge Sargento Cheese recall for both sliced and shredded varieties. We know…sad faces over here, too. But since Americans eat a reported 35 pounds of cheese per year (yes, that’s per person), a lot of people should be running the the fridge right about now.
CBS News reported that Sargento voluntarily recalled their Chef Blends Shredded Nacho & Taco Cheese (those packages with sell-by dates June 14 or July 12) and its Ultra Thin Sliced Longhorn Colby (with sell-by dates of April 12 or May 10) due to a potential listeria outbreak. Additionally, they recalled certain products that were packaged along the same line, but no other products have been affected.
As of right now, no one has reported sickness from eating the cheese, but we say better to air on the side of caution rather than take the risk.
