Ick: You Might Want to Hold Off On Ordering Salmon Sushi

Get ready for your daily dose of ew: the salmon tapeworm is present in America for the first time and might just be hiding in your favorite piece of sashimi. We know, we’re rescheduling our dinner res, too. According to HealthDay, the tapeworm that typically only affects salmon from the Asian Pacific is now present in salmon from U.S. waters.

Deep breaths.

Before you panic: according to U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, most people who ingest the worm experience no symptoms at all. But, if you do start to experience diarrhea, abdominal pain and/or weight loss, check with your doctor asap because it can lead to a vitamin B12 deficiency.

Um, gag.
